Steppenwolf
This week’s BFP/Jamiol Music pick was really easy. It was a request from our own Bill Bergman so it’s almost like a night off for me. Bill’s pick is Monster by Steppenwolf. John Kay and Jerry Edmonton wrote and released this powerful song back in 1969 almost over 40 years ago. Listening to the lyrics shows little over those 40 years has changed.
Part of the visuals accompanying the music are from our present time and slams home how little has changed. Bill, thanks for request. While Irate, our little furry friend in the recliner above, may not be all that soothed tonight, he will seriously enjoy Steppenwolf’s Monster…DJPJ

Bill Thanks again for suggestion…really great song. No it wasn’t my editing. Not sure who did the editing but great selection of images and they paced it beautifully.

Yep. Must admit to some discomfort with the unions/Walker stuff; I’m concerned that unions have, in some ways, become part of the Monster.

Maybe, but very small part of Monster. Unions are only around 11% of workforce and Corps are outsourcing all jobs not just union. I think they get short end of stick because Corp press consistently plays them as all of the problem…mho.

Bill, Big money for sure and not arguing that but only 19 (quick count) out of the 140 all-time donors were unions. The other 88% were Corps, Associations, etc. Understand your point but union workers along with non-union workers are getting screwed at every turn in this country…again mho.

My two cents: Organized crime is the problem and it effects many organizations systemically. The same could be said about all three branches of the US Government and private capitalist corporations. Just because they are poisoned and compromised to varying degrees, doesn’t mean they are bad ideas.
In general, I tend to side with the poor people throwing rocks vs. the tank. I encourage worker unionization and look at the Wisconsin events as positive actions by common people in attempting to derail the fascist locomotive cutting through the middle class. The middle class is waking up to the fact that they are becoming pushed into a corner. But economic/social philosophy aside – it’s the organized crime that is the common enemy.
