Nina Simone

STB_S

This week’s BFP/Jamiol pick is “I Shall Be Released” written by Bob Dylan in 1967. It has been covered many times by a slew of singers across the musical landscape. None did it better than the late American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist Nina Simone. Nina’s cover of Dylan’s song infuses it with the incredible soul she was noted for.

A little trivia on this week’s BFP/Jamiol music pick…first off, it was a request from Sibel who brings some great music to the turntable and secondly, this song was played as the theme song during Sibel’s first radio interview ever. She explained to me, “I’d always liked Dylan’s poetry (not his voice), and everything Nina Simone, and until that interview I hadn’t heard Simone singing one of my most favorite Dylan lyrics. So folks, kick back with Sibel and enjoy a great song with Nina’s incredible singing and her outstanding piano….DJPJ
