BFP Nightly Quote
“I am personally acquainted with hundreds of journalists, and the opinion of the majority of them would not be worth tuppence in private, but when they speak in print it is the newspaper that is talking (the pygmy scribe is not visible) and then their utterances shake the community like the thunders of prophecy.” – Mark Twain

Re: Pakistan and the IPI pipeline, it looks like Pakistan may now be backing off somewhat from the U.S. after the constant beating it has been getting from us and NATO, and may now be starting to seek more security, stability and economic development by tilting more to the Chinese. Being able to develop its portion of the IPI Pipeline would contribute enormously, since the TAPI could take years to complete- and Iran’s offer to finance it is an interesting development. If, finally, India were to come on board (despite the pressures put on it by the U.S.), it would enable those two nations to develop a more stable relationship through the sharing of an important mutual resource. Why the U.S. has not understood or reached out to satisfy the core interests of Pakistan vis a vis India and Kashmir suggests a real blind spot in our diplomacy. It seems as if the major thorns in Central Asia are, the U.S. military, and its proxies Turkey and Israel, and NATO (especially Great Britain with its interest in BP) With all of the mischief they have done to the region, maybe it would benefit from them leaving, starting with regime change in Azerbaijan, including expelling the Israelis and renegotiating BP’s interest in the Ceyhan pipeline. This would improve the region’s stability and well being, and also remove one more threat to Iran’s security. The can use its advanced weaponry to coerce others, but at some point it needs to offer something positive to the region, or it will continue to be undesirable and irrelevant.

Regarding your story on FCC disclosures of political ad buys. Propublica is looking for citizen journalist/researchers to go to local stations to view and photograph those stations public files, then forwarding them to Propublica where they will be compiled into a searchable, online database for the public information. Here’s the link to the Propublica website.
