Yoshida Brothers- “Cherry Blossoms in Winter”

This week’s Jamiol/BFP music pick features the Yoshida Brothers performing their song Fuyu no Sakura or “Cherry Blossoms in Winter.” The Yoshida Brothers have mastered the traditional Japanese music style of Tsugaru-jamisen which originated in northern Japan. Their music, while true to traditional Japanese folk music, has elements of modern music and while they perform their music on the shamisen (a Japanese three-stringed instrument), they also use drums and synthesizers.     Nice pick, DJPJ. I first heard these guys in Japan a few years ago on the radio – jamming in an odd time rhythm; something more like jazz/fusion with that shamisen flavor. Wish I could remember what that tune was called. I need to check them out some more and this is a good reminder. Their myspace page has some good tunes:
