Xicha Says:
In response to Video 1: Warfare, Welfare & the State:
While I don’t disagree with much of the characterization of the State as a collection of criminal entities, I found there was no offering of any alternative in this presentation.
I find the same problem in the frequent presentations by Corbett – the complaint against “violence” inherent in any government – sounds to me like complaining against “gravity” inherent in any mass. The complaints are presented as though violence is created only by government. The alternatives always include the words “only as a last resort”.
I hear that we need to take responsibility for our own protection. That we need to make agreements with our neighbors to deal with ownership/use difficulties. But the arguments never seem to be taken to their natural conclusion – that those agreement ARE what government SHOULD BE.
Although I entirely agree with ownership of self and many libertarian ideas, I see the advice to disregard the state or suffer and die = disregard gravity or fall to the Earth.
My conclusion continues to be that we need to enlighten the populace in order to cleanse the government of criminality. The outlook isn’t great and many have pointed out that a collapse is the most probable outcome.
I know there are many viewpoints in the BFP community on this philosophical question, and I hope to hear more.
