Lila Downs- La Iguana

Tonight’s Soothing the Beast BFP/Jamiol pick is Lila Downs performing La Iguana. Downs, a Mexican singer-songwriter, is one of the freshest and most original voices in Mexican music. Born in the mountains of Oaxaca, she studied music in the US and returned to Mexico to work with the indigenous women of Oaxaca. Her music is driven by civil rights and social issues. This song, however, is a little more light hearted with a
story about an iguana.
The video has a music video quality with a lot of cuts and really needs to be played full screen to see her energy and the fun she’s having performing this. I love her iguana dance and the harp playing of Celso Duarte is nothing but spectacular. So crank it up and listen to this outstanding performance by Lila Downs…DJPJ

Bo Says:
Lila Downs visited the “Folkmusic-festival! in the lovely swedish town Falun 20 years ago. Between her performaces on stage she came down and walked around among the people. I met her there she gave me a signed disc, we had a chat and I promised her that her voice and her talents are extraordinary and that she will inherit the simbolic value that Mercedes Sosa had among the peoples of Latin America. She will always inhabits a part of my heart.
She is a revolutionary force with her art. Viva Lila! Viva! Te adoro mujer!
