Mass Delusion & Obama’s Election
Obama’s re-election was a wonderful example of how the public relations and advertising industries created what Walter Lippmann referred to as the “bewildered herd” of “ignorant and meddlesome outsiders” who need to have their consent engineered, so that they may be the “interested spectators of action.” It’s a sign of a successful marketing campaign (“election”) when everyone is talking about Big Bird, but no one knows what the NDAA is. This episode looks at what the re-election of Barack Obama actually means, and why those who celebrated his victory are engaging in little more than mass delusion. Posterity will have little good to say of a culture that celebrated the murder of one terrorist, and a year later, celebrated the election of another, far greater terrorist.
