The Arab Spring and the American Empire
Two years on from the start of the Arab Spring, the people are back out on the streets in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and elsewhere. Their demands for democracy have not changed, though the faces of their oppressors may have. This episode looks at the development of the Arab Spring, as well as the US and Western reactions to them. First, we continue support for the dictatorships, then we support Western-style “democracy” and Islamist governments. Now, since the people in Tunisia and Egypt are rejecting the Islamist governments we helped establish, we are resorting to further militarization and destabilization of the region.
