  1. Great interview, Sibel, Peter, and Charlie.

Sibel, I understand your sentiment and rationale when you talk about the government that is providing social safety net/infrastructure. I don’t see why it’s so difficult for you to understand why people still support these investments. This is the part of the government that informed people feel like they have ownership of – that has been continually attacked and stolen from them by the fascists. While people may be wrong in your rationale, since the government is completely poisoned, they shouldn’t be so hard to understand.

One way to look at it is to imagine the poisoned government being replaced as part and parcel of good public infrastructure investment. Oil and water. What some people may still fail to see is that the actual investments are structurally unsound and/or unwise. What others may fail to see is that some good infrastructure investment still takes place and there is still a question about whether or not it can be used as an antidote.

I hope that this comment is not taken to be confrontational or disrespectful of your rationale ;) I also hope that the paradox is treated with respect from all perspectives.

  2. I really like Charlie’s balanced approach/perspective on all the issues you discussed. It seems like he is really interested in solutions and not too attached to any political philosophy. And he has a positive, inspiring, keep-your-chin-up affect.

What happened to “we the people”? For 50 years they have been lied to and dumbed down to the point of being zombies, and so has Congress. It is the responsibility of the “irate minority” of aware people to lead by establishing a relationship with their legislators, with Congress, with the state legislators, calling them, writing them and going to their offices relentlessly. Such a highly active minority can turn Congress and the country around. The best hope I can see is to push for HR 129, which restores the full, unadulterated Glass-Steagall Roosevelt banking law of 1933. http://beta.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/129. Study it, understand it and call your legislator. Be relentless. There are hundreds of other activists working full-time to get this done. Visit larouchepac.com for more information.

The problem is not that government is “too big” or “too small”; the trouble is that the government has been hijacked by Wall Street and the City of London. Austerity is suicide. Balancing the budget is suicide. The way to solve our economic problems is with a government policy to GROW THE ECONOMY, and to have such a policy we have to break the grip of the oligarchy. Here is a draft of proposed legislation to restore the U.S. National Bank of Alexander Hamilton and John Quincy Adams.

  5. We are all dependent on something…fossil fuel corporations (wed to the military industrial complex) and industrial agriculture to name a few. You can’t separate govt and private industry any more. There is no free market solution, nor is there a government driven one. In a world of complex, competitive, technological societies, force is the underlying principle which brings us a tentative order that is more like a disorder. Hyper competition and increasingly disruptive technologies are the driving forces of the day, in the midst of a sea of disinformaton, distraction, disempowerment, and apathy. Any possible solution will not look like ones previously attempted, as the forces of corruption, wealth concentration, technological advance, global destabilization, are all accelerating. We have literally built a machine of death. Better start thinking outside the box.
