Empire, Power, and People with Andrew Gavin Marshall- Episode 91

Empire of Debt

EPPThis episode examines the contours of how debt relates to imperialism in the modern world, noting its recent history from the oil price shocks to the 1980s debt crisis, the implementation of neoliberal reforms, central bank “independence” and the power of financial markets. Debt functions as a means of dependency and discipline, shackling the debtor to the lender, and facilitating the global expansion of Western State-Capitalist Empire.

  1. Andrew, thanks for your work. Everyone is pressed for time so it’s valuable to hear presentations of complex subjects from someone who has obviously done the research.

This time your modulation was a bit low so I had to boost my volume to hear you clearly, which in turn made the shock noise (booming noises) picked up by your microphone or recording device rather distracting. A friendly suggestion is to try placing your recording device on some kind of improvised shock mount, such as a thick layer of open-cell foam.

Thanks and keep up the good work!
