De-Manufacturing Consent- “The Surveillance State Goes Well Beyond the NSA”

Guillermo Jimenez Presents Shahid Buttar

On this edition of De-Manufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by Shahid Buttar, a writer, poet, musician, and Executive Director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee. Guillermo and Shahid discuss how the complexity and totality of the surveillance state in the United States extends far beyond the NSA and current scandalous headlines. We explore how the FBI, CIA, Customs and Border Protection, local state agencies and municipal police departments have been spying domestically and laying the groundwork for the “panopticon” for decades. Also on the program, we discuss various ways to build coalitions and engage the public as activists, through community outreach, media, music, art, and other creative means of communication.

  1. Edward says “I am not trying to bring down the NSA, I am working to improve the NSA,” he said. “I am still working for the NSA right now. They are the only ones who don’t realize it.”

Edward says that his mission is accomplished. Who said that last time?stood the grinning ape on USS Exceptionalist as the children of Iraq burned.FYbush. But for Edward, does this mean what it says, or is this poetry? Sort of a Christmas abstract. A play on words some dumb Jreefer pretending authorship would have us consider during festive season? Unfortunate choice of words anyways, given the questions asked of his intentions on this forum. He ‘still working for NSA ‘ reads very badly. Does “mission accomplished” mean no more datadump? Will he get the Oswald pass back to homeland now that the mission is accomplished.
    Tune in. Next year.
