Yoshida Brothers- “Cherry Blossoms in Winter”
This week’s Jamiol/BFP music pick features the Yoshida Brothers performing their song Fuyu no Sakura or “Cherry Blossoms in Winter.” The Yoshida Brothers have mastered the traditional Japanese music style of Tsugaru-jamisen which originated in northern Japan. Their music, while true to traditional Japanese folk music, has elements of modern music and while they perform their music on the shamisen (a Japanese three-stringed instrument), they also use drums and synthesizers. This song is truly beautiful. Relax, listen and enjoy!…DJPJ Read more

It’s been over a half year now of Soothing the Beast: Saturday Night BFP-Jamiol Music Pick. A lot of Saturday-night listening to an eclectic selection of music here at BFP. I hope you have enjoyed my selections (and the requests) so far. This weeks pick is all about soothing with Smokey Robinson’s Quiet Storm. Apropos, I think, for the non-quiet storms that we are during the week.
Robinson is one of the music industry’s most prolific songwriters and also such an imaginative one that Bob Dylan once called him “America’s greatest living poet”. This particular piece is one of my favorites and shows off his talent best. So kick back, grab that drink and enjoy….DJPJ Read more

Nina Simone
This week’s BFP/Jamiol pick is “I Shall Be Released” written by Bob Dylan in 1967. It has been covered many times by a slew of singers across the musical landscape. None did it better than the late American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist Nina Simone. Nina’s cover of Dylan’s song infuses it with the incredible soul she was noted for.
A little trivia on this week’s BFP/Jamiol music pick…first off, it was a request from Sibel who brings some great music to the turntable and secondly, this song was played as the theme song during Sibel’s first radio interview ever. She explained to me, “I’d always liked Dylan’s poetry (not his voice), and everything Nina Simone, and until that interview I hadn’t heard Simone singing one of my most favorite Dylan lyrics. So folks, kick back with Sibel and enjoy a great song with Nina’s incredible singing and her outstanding piano….DJPJ Read more
