<p><span style="font-size: small;">Last year investigative journalist David Boyajian wrote two exposés on Washington-based Woodrow Wilson International Center, revealing how the center has been violating its Congressional mandate and been up to its neck in tainted corporate cash. Many agreed with Boyajian’s damning assessment, including a prominent journalist who called the WWC </span><a href="http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/18/turkey-woodrow-wilson-award-opinions-columnists-claudia-rosett.html" target="_blank"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">“a global joke.”</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> I too wrote a </span><a href="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2010/10/03/911-commissioner%e2%80%99s-turkey-baste-chicken-or-the-egg/"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">follow up article</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> on WWC with a special focus on its ‘oily’ President, Mr. Lee Hamilton. By oily, I mean ‘glisteningly greasy.’ I am sure you recognize his name from his highly publicized position and face as one of the 9/11 Commissioners, but his possibly pay-off position with WWC was not the lone factor for his glistening status in my report. Here are a few excerpts from my </span><a href="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2010/10/03/911-commissioner%e2%80%99s-turkey-baste-chicken-or-the-egg/"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">piece</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> to illustrate what I mean:</span></p>

It was truly interesting to see how many ‘honorary’ positions Mr. Hamilton has been given, handed, by our government alone, just check out a few here:</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">-Co-chair of the Department of Energy Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future with Brent Scowcroft</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">-Serves on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board &amp; the FBI Director’s Advisory Board, </span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">-Serves on the US Department of Homeland Security Task Force </span></em></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em>- Serves on the CIA External Advisory Board</em></span></p>
<p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">The White House, the CIA, and the FBI must have been extremely well-served by Hamilton’s performance as the commissioner to grant him this many prestigious quasi positions. No? For me, the most interesting aspect which was covered by </span></em><a href="http://www.countercurrents.org/boyajian011010.htm"><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">CounterCurrents.Org</span></em></a><em><span style="font-family: Arial;"> had to do with Hamilton’s position with and current salary from the </span></em><a href="http://www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=director.about"><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">Woodrow Wilson Center</span></em></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em>, and his questionable corporate ties, particularly with BAE Systems, the main sponsor of his forthcoming gala dinner</em><strong>…</strong><em></em></span></p>

Now back to the focus of this post. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">On Friday, December 16, Boyajian wrote another damning </span><a href="http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2011/12/16/the-marriage-from-hell-jane-harman-and-the-woodrow-wilson-center/"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">exposé</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> on WWC in </span><a href="http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2011/12/16/the-marriage-from-hell-jane-harman-and-the-woodrow-wilson-center/"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">Foreign Policy Journal</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> which went, of course, largely underreported. This time, the focus of the article was on the new president of the Woodrow Wilson International Center (WWC), another oily persona, another woman with a past, another representative: Jane Harman. I am sure you remember her </span><a href="http://www.salon.com/2009/04/20/harman/"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">massive scandal</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> involving espionage-AIPAC-Israel that was quickly covered up and forgotten by the US mainstream media. No?<!--more-->   </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">How about Harman&#8217;s role as ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee in failing to protest when briefed on the Bush administration’s illegal wiretap program and voting for the Iraq war authorization? Come on, even Dick Cheney </span><a href="http://www.commondreams.org/view/2008/12/22-1"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">confirmed</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> that Harman knew about and approved of the program. We all know she got where she got by being good at being a lap dog and an oily one. Let’s add ‘savvy’ to the list of Harman’s adjectives; by that I mean savvy in being damningly oily. The woman knows how to redirect or turn off spotlights to hide her glistening parts: have some control of the spotlights switch. She </span><a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/21/newsweekdailybeast-idUSN2130066720110421"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">sits</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> on the board of Newsweek, and maintains intimate relationships with the media puppeteers. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">All right, this time let’s go back to Boyajian’s exposé and just stay there. Enough detours. The title of the exposé alone is revealing:<strong> </strong></span><a href="http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2011/12/16/the-marriage-from-hell-jane-harman-and-the-woodrow-wilson-center/"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">“The Marriage from Hell: Jane Harman &#038; the Woodrow Wilson Center”</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">. </span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">Several months ago, this Congressionally-created, </span></em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodrow_Wilson_International_Center_for_Scholars" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">multi-million dollar think tank</span></em></a><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">, funded partly by taxpayers, made another colossal blunder.  </span></em><a href="http://www.wilsoncenter.org/staff/jane-harman" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">It hired</span></em></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em> </em><em>former eight-term Congresswoman </em></span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Harman" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">Jane Harman (D–CA)</span></em></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em> </em><em>to be its president, </em></span><a href="http://www.politico.com/blogs/laurarozen/0510/Lee_Hamilton_to_step_down_from_Woodrow_Wilson_center.html?showall" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">replacing</span></em></a><em></em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_H._Hamilton" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">Lee Hamilton</span></em></a><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">, also a former Congressman.</span></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Harman, like Hamilton, is not only part of the good-old-boy (and girl) network of which the WWC is so fond.   Among her other baggage, charges of illegal conduct in a </span></em><a href="http://politics.salon.com/2009/04/20/harman/" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size: small;">spy scandal</span></em></a><em><span style="font-size: small;"> involving AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) have </span></em><a href="http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2009/04/21/harmanic-convergence/" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size: small;">shadowed Harman</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> for years. Let’s take a closer look at Harman and the Wilson Center to see why they’re the marriage from hell.</em></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;">Oh yes. Boyajian unabashedly puts this glistening woman and WWC under a magnifying class damningly and invites readers to join and see for themselves. I’ll list a few damning excerpts, and then let you go read the entire piece. Here is Harman and her AIPAC scandal:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Harman would persuade the Justice Department to reduce the charges against Rosen and Weissman; in exchange, AIPAC and its influential supporters would persuade then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to reappoint the unpopular Harman as top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.Harman apparently promised the “Israeli agent” to </span></em><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/21/us/politics/21harman.html" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size: small;">“waddle into”</span></em></a><em><span style="font-size: small;">  the AIPAC scandal “if you think it’ll make a difference.”  Harman ended the exchange with </span></em><a href="http://harpers.org/archive/2009/04/hbc-90004814" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size: small;">“this conversation doesn’t exist.”</span></em></a><em></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">The Justice Department and CIA wanted to prosecute Harman.  </span></em><a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2009/04/did-alberto-gonzales-blackmail-jane-harman" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-size: small;">But Alberto Gonzales</span></em></a><em><span style="font-size: small;">, President Bush’s <span style="color: #009900;">Attorney</span> General, reportedly refused because – ironically – he “needed Jane” to support the government’s ongoing warrantless wiretapping program.</span></em></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">…</span></strong></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Part of why the WWC has all but ignored Wilson’s record on Turkey and the Caucasus is undoubtedly that many major donors (present and past members of its elite </span></em><a href="http://www.wilsoncenter.org/wilson-alliances" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">“Wilson Alliance”</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em>) </em><em>have lobbied for, or been members of trade organizations that have lobbied for, Turkey and against the Armenian resolution.  </em></span><a href="http://www.armeniapedia.org/index.php?title=The_Selling_of_the_Woodrow_Wilson_Center" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">These include Alcoa, BAE Systems, Bechtel, Boeing, Bombardier, Chevron, Coca Cola, Exxon-Mobil and Honeywell.</span></em></a><em></em></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">In fact, Harman’s predecessor, Lee Hamilton, engaged in a clear conflict of interest during his tenure by </span></em><a href="http://www.baesystems.com/WorldwideLocations/UnitedStates/AboutBAESystemsUnitedStates/USBoardofDirectors/index.htm" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">sitting on the board</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> </em><em>of BAE Systems, a defense giant which does lots of business with Turkey.  Last year a Federal judge slapped BAE’s parent corporation with a $400 million criminal fine for “deception, duplicity and knowing violations of law … </em></span><a href="http://compliancesearch.com/compliancex/news-and-current-events/bae-pleads-guilty-to-us-conspiracy-charge/" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">on an enormous scale.</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> </em><em>“Too bad the judge didn’t also look into the Wilson Center.</em></span></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Hamilton also </span></em><a href="http://www.albrightstonebridge.com/team/lee-hamilton/" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">sat on the board</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> </em><em>of the Albright Stonebridge Group, a “global strategy firm” headed by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.</em></span></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Hamilton’s WWC bio, incredibly, was dead silent about his corporate affiliations. This same Lee Hamilton co-chaired the </span></em><a href="http://www.9-11commission.gov/about/bio_hamilton.htm" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">official National Commission</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> </em><em>on the 9/11 attacks, whose report has been widely criticized as incomplete and biased.    Hamilton and Harman, you see, can be counted on not to rock the corporate establishment’s boat.</em></span></p>

And former </em></span><a href="http://www.wilsoncenter.org/staff/marc-grossman-0" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">“Wilson Public Policy Scholar”</span></em></a><em></em> <em><span style=" font-size: small;">Marc Grossman</span></em><span style="font-size: small;"><em>, </em><em>ex-US ambassador to Turkey and DLA Piper bigwig.  “Coincidentally,” Sanchez and Grossman were both on the </em></span><a href="http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=xprnw.20110208.DC44231&amp;show_article=1" target="_blank"><em><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">WWC Search Committee</span></em></a><span style="font-size: small;"><em> </em><em>that hired Harman.</em></span></p>

While you are reading think about Victor Hugo’s le Miserable; think about those poor suckers in jail for the possession of 5 ounces of dry weeds; think about the mega charlatans, mega corporate criminals, mega representatives-turned-mega foreign lobbyists selling our nation’s soul-shrunken wealth to the highest bidders …Think about us the people, the biggest suckers of all in all this.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: small;">American voters disagree on many issues but nearly all agree that government’s performance has been abysmal. </span></p>
<blockquote><p><span style="font-size: small;"><em>Americans&#8217; satisfaction with the way things are going in the United States has fallen back to 11%, the lowest level since December 2008 and just four percentage points above the all-time low recorded in October 2008…The all-time low of 7% came in an Oct. 10-12, 2008, poll, conducted shortly after stock values plummeted following Congress&#8217; passage of the TARP legislation in response to the September 2008 financial crisis.</em> (Gallup.com, August 18, 2011)</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">The data show that public confidence fell most sharply when the President and Congress rejected majority public opinion on economic issues, namely </span><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/business/25voices.html"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">bank bailouts</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> and </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/poll-americans-support-higher-taxes-on-the-rich-2011-4"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">federal debt reduction</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">. Those were not the only disappointments, by any means. On a variety of issues, from healthcare reform to credit card legislation, government officials have given lip service to the wishes of their constituents. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Political commentators and candidates for political office regularly attack government officials as inept.  President Bush was labeled </span><a href="http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2006/03/05/4037/conservatives-believe-administration-incompetent/"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">incompetent</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">. President Obama is criticized as a </span><a href="http://www.npr.org/2010/12/02/131733220/liberals-obama-doesn-t-compromise-he-caves"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">poor negotiator</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">.  Democrats, in general, are described as </span><a href="http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/senate-dems-capitulate-gop-talking-p"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">weak</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> while Republicans are viewed as </span><a href="http://www.billpressshow.com/2011/04/07/a-cold-hearted-republican-budget-proposal/"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">cold-hearted</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">. Unsurprisingly, that is how voters </span><a href="http://www.mvchamber.org/mvchamber_news.asp?id=1315"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">perceive</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> the parties, also.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong></strong></span><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cristic/345505944/" title="Marionettes for sale by ccarlstead, on Flickr"><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/133/345505944_80c60b39db_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Marionettes for sale"></a>Few of these politicians were really incompetent. Many failed to produce the results voters said they wanted.  But, that may be because the politicians were serving a different constituency: a wealthy corporate elite.  With a <a href="http://www.iwatchnews.org/2011/07/19/5263/goldman-lobbyists-have-met-dodd-frank-regulators-nearly-100-times"><span style="color: #0000ff;">coterie of lobbyists</span></a> constantly tugging on their strings, political puppets are bound to appear clumsy. They know how to get what they want, though. Most freshman members of Congress are <a href="http://theweek.com/article/index/213136/the-congressional-millionaires-club-by-the-numbers"><span style="color: #0000ff;">millionaires</span></a>, after all.<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The only downside for political puppets is the possibility of voter backlash at election time. Economically, however, politicians are well-insulated from public displeasure. Whether they are booted from office or decide to retire, they can look forward to cushy jobs with </span><a href="http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&amp;address=389x8261946"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">corporations</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">, </span><a href="http://firststreet.cqpress.com/content/Revolving_Door_Members.aspx"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">corporate lobbies,</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"> and corporate-funded </span><a href="http://herinst.org/BusinessManagedDemocracy/government/national/funding.html"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: small;">think tanks</span></a><span style="font-size: small;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Elected officials have another incentive to be responsive to corporate lobbying:  their stock portfolios. For example, eight members of Congress hold $50,000 or more in Apple stock, reports OpenSecrets.org (August 25, 2011), and one of the eight (Nancy Pelosi) reportedly has Apple stock worth $1 million or more. Observers have noticed that Congressional investments <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/24/members-of-congress-get-a_n_866387.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">out-perform</span></a> the stock market and even out-perform investments held by <a href="http://insidertrading.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=001034"><span style="color: #0000ff;">corporate insiders</span></a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Some outraged citizens have called for mass demonstrations.  But, demonstrations against government policies tend to fail when the policies are profitable for corporations, observes psychologist Bruce Levine. In his book, <em>Get Up, Stand Up, Levine</em> writes:</span><span id="more-5850"></span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-size: small;">Major corporate interests were at stake in the Iraq invasion, especially those of the energy-industrial complex and the military-industrial complex.  Another role of the US government—along with deflecting criticism from corporations and putting down uprisings—is to wage wars deemed useful to the corporate elite.  Despite the large demonstrations against the Iraq War, the resistance offered was not disruptive to a government that is dependent on the corporate elite rather than on the people it supposedly represents. (Levine, p. 184)</span></em></p></blockquote>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">Some activists are taking their grievances straight to the corporations. When “done intelligently,” says Levine, even small protests have been effective (Levine, p. 186). But, most voters still don’t see beyond the smokescreen that protects the string-pullers from accountability.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-size: small;">The corporatocracy is most delighted to see demonstrations against government policies in which there are no corporate interests at stake—issues such as abortion rights and same-sex marriage.  These are issues that divide Americans into distrusting camps so that they can be easily conquered on the issues that the corporatocracy does care about. (Levine, p. 184)</span></em></p></blockquote>
<p><span style="font-size: small;">What corporations care about, of course, is making a profit. Americans hoping to regain control of government therefore need to find ways to influence corporations through the power of their collective purses.  But, most Americans still think of political power only in terms of the ballots they cast on election day. And, anyway, the puppet shows are a great diversion.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">I’ve been meaning to write about this for weeks, and just got around doing it. Maybe the subconscious procrastination was due to the conscious sanitization of this news by venues like </span><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/06/us/politics/06ethics.html?_r=1"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">this</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">. Maybe it was the dread of having to tackle one of the quasi media phony darlings like </span><a href="http://www.politico.com/arena/bio/bruce_fein.html"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">this guy</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">. Or maybe it was the repressed exhaustion-frustration I went through a couple of years back with </span><a href="http://www.nowpublic.com/world/sibel-edmonds-deposition-deep-corruption-beneath-surface-0"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">this</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">. Okay, allow me to start with the fairly recent development </span><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/06/us/politics/06ethics.html?_r=1"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">reported</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> ‘incompletely and badly’ by the New York Times: </span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">Representative Jean Schmidt, Republican of Ohio, has been </span></em><a title="http://ethics.house.gov/News/Read.aspx?ID=189" href="http://ethics.house.gov/News/Read.aspx?ID=189" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">ordered</span></em></a><em><span style="font-family: Arial;"> by the House Ethics Committee to repay a Turkish-American group $500,000 for legal services it improperly paid for to help her pursue a defamation lawsuit and other legal proceedings against a Democratic opponent in the 2008 election.</span></em></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">As you can see, very consciously the Times avoids naming ‘<em>that Democratic opponent.</em>’ Because naming him, </span><a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0411/52950.html"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">David Krikorian</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">, would require some fact citing and more context-background on the case; the case they together with the rest of the mainstream media went out of their way to black out. And doing ‘<em>that</em>’ would God forbid </span><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/06/us/politics/06ethics.html?_r=1"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">bring up</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"> the long-blacked-out state secrets privilege in my case. And ‘<em>that</em>’ my dear friends, is something that has been forbidden to these stenographers in the media circus. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">So let’s continue the no-coverage coverage of a very significant case involving Congresswoman Jean Schmidt and the twisted and rechanneled Turkish Foreign Lobby dollars: </span></p>
<blockquote><p><a title="http://ethics.house.gov/News/Read.aspx?id=192" href="http://ethics.house.gov/News/Read.aspx?id=192" target="_blank"><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">The action</span></em></a><em><span style="font-family: Arial;"> by the House committee, disclosed Friday, did not come with a formal punishment, because ethics investigators concluded that Ms. Schmidt had been misled by her <strong>own lawyers</strong> from the Turkish American Legal Defense Fund about who was paying the legal bills.</span></em></p>
</blockquote>
<blockquote><p><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em>Ms. Schmidt was ordered to amend her annual personal financial disclosure reports to acknowledge the gift from the Turkish Coalition of America, which actually paid the bills, and then reimburse the lawyers.</em></span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">The report above casually, and very quickly, glosses over one of the implicated, that is, directly implicated, parties in this case: Schmidt’s lawyer- the lawyer who supposedly, and intentionally, misled his client, and did so with a dollar amount not in the thousands, but actually half a million dollars. Ordinarily this slip by a government garbage disposal facility like the Times would not raise big flags. However, this lawyer is no ordinary lawyer. The lawyer in question here happens to be a famous, very public, high-profile and very deviously and shrewdly marketed man. The lawyer in this case is none other than deceivingly perceived </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Fein"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">Bruce Fein</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">.  A man who has gotten very wealthy thanks to the </span><a href="http://reporting.sunlightfoundation.com/2009/defense-contractors-join-turkish-lobbying-effort-in-pursuit-of-/"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">foreign lobby</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">, in this case the Turkish lobby in need of a man who knows the maze that gets the cheese to the congressional mice:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="font-size: small;">In 2007, Ayasli transferred $30 million in stock to fund a new endeavor, the nonprofit Turkish Coalition of America. The organization is headquartered in a Washington suite that has also been listed as the address for the Turkish Coalition USA PAC, the lobbying firm of Lydia Borland (who has represented the Turkish government), and the law firm of <strong>Bruce Fein and Associates</strong> (Fein comprises half of the Turkish American Legal Defense Fund). </span></em></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: small;">…</span></strong></p>
<p><em><span style="font-size: small;">In addition to the advocacy done through the ATC (which also funds trips to Turkey for congressional staff), a handful of its members&#8211;Citigroup, BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, Chevron, Textron, United Technologies, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, which spent a combined $80 million lobbying Washington last year lobbied Congress directly on the genocide resolution and other issues important to Turkey; the Aerospace Industries Association, a trade group, helped coordinate the effort. </span></em></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial;">Oh wait, Bruce Fein is married to </span><a href="http://israelmatzav.blogspot.com/2010/09/mattie-fein-republican-candidate-for.html"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">Mattie Fein</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">, the Republican candidate who ran against Jane Harman in 2010. Had she won, how would one go about calculating and deducting her campaign-donation  ‘<em>gifts</em>’ from her husbands million-dollar foreign lobby gifts? Isn’t it interesting? And as far as Turkey’s former partner lobby, the Israeli Lobby, this is where Bruce &amp; his voluptuous wife stand when given the Zionism litmus </span><a href="http://israelmatzav.blogspot.com/2010/09/mattie-fein-republican-candidate-for.html"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #0000ff;">test</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">:</span></p>
<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">7. Would you support Israel taking military action to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons? Under what circumstances?</span></em></strong><em><br />

<p><em><span style="font-family: Arial;">The United States should support whatever Israel believes is justified by national security worries over Iran.</span></em></p>

<p>I know Mr. Fein has many pro-liberties fans out there who are mistaking him for ‘real;’ some consider him a real constitutionalist who stands for liberties and against secrecy. That’s very similar to those who fell for Obama the constitutionalist. Remember, Obama the author of a very constitutional book? Recall the beautiful words spoken and sold as pro liberties, pro change, anti secrecy and beyond? Well, you have a similar situation with Mr. Fein: he talks a good talk, and writes well. As for who Mr. Fein is: you are looking at a man long succumbed to foreign lobby and military industrial complex lobby dollars. You are looking at a man far more loyal to Israel and its lobby than to our nation. You actually have a man who believes any war would be justified for the sake of Israel. And in the latest Schmidt case you are looking at a man who helped funnel half a million dollar foreign ‘Bakshish’ to his congresswoman friend, and even indicted by the lame Congressional Ethics Committee as an attorney who intentionally misled his client.<span id="more-5685"></span></p>
<p>Yet, you see none of this in the New York Times coverage. These points are intentionally omitted in mainstream media reports. Just as they were during my case-a topic that threatened corrupt US officials, MIC and Foreign lobbies. </p>

Whose money spins your planet?  In recent decades, Saudi Arabia emerged as a skillful puppeteer, pulling the strings of its expanding influence. Dare to see the big picture, out of the context of pseudo-political loyalties, free of the intoxicating opiate of the mainstream media. Look behind the mask of false pretenses to see the awful truth: riches seeking ever more money, celebrity looking for more notoriety, propaganda masquerading as the truth and the deprivation of liberties posturing as the savior in the “<em>war on terror</em>”.</p>
<p>To uncover who is truly in control, all you have to do is follow the money.  </p>
<p>Since the mid-eighties, British and American politicians have been operating under suspicion of being compromised by <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/baefiles/page/0,,2095831,00.html"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">al-Yamamah</span></em></a>, the $80 billion Anglo-Saudi black operations slush fund. It is the product of the 20-year oil-for-arms barter deal, wherein <em>BAE Systems</em> (formerly <em>British Aerospace</em>), Britain’s largest defense contractor, <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/2008/04/15/the-prince-and-the-prime-minister.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">reportedly paid bribes</span></a> to sell combat fighter planes, helicopters, tanks and ammunitions to Saudi Arabia. In return for the arms, the Saudi&#8217;s agreed to supply hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil a day to the British. <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/2941537/Twenty-years-of-smokescreen-over-Saudi-deal.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">It was the largest arms deal in UK history</span></a> that was arranged in a way that circumvented any potential objections by the U.S. Congress.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/726_BushSaudi.png" alt="bushsaudi" /><em>BAE</em> (the world’s second largest defense company) was said to have paid millions into accounts controlled by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, a highly influential former ambassador to Washington, DC. Prince Bandar’s close ties to the Bush family prompted the nickname “<em>Bandar Bush</em>”. Bandar’s children reportedly attended school with Cheney&#8217;s grandchildren. <a href="http://www.economist.com/node/12551526?story_id=12551526"><span style="color: #0000ff;">The power Bandar wielded was extraordinary</span></a>. For decades he was a close friend to five U.S. Presidents and numerous <em>CIA</em> directors, as well as heads of state and monarchs of other countries. In the Bush years, Bandar became virtually part of the administration, able to enter the White House unannounced. Ever a master manipulator, Bandar skillfully controlled the mainstream media, with the <em>Washington</em> <em>Post</em> being his paper of choice when it came to royal leaks.</p>
<p>Bandar had his hand in some of the biggest scandals in modern history. During the Reagan presidency, Bandar secured the purchase of AWACs surveillance aircraft, despite opposition from <em>AIPAC</em> (after the U.S. rejected an arms order, Bandar covertly arranged the delivery of intermediate-range nuclear-warhead-capable missiles from China). He was exposed for his involvement in the Iran-Contra scandal, having arranged $32 million in Saudi financing for the Nicaraguan Contras. Bandar’s wife was reportedly sending money to one of the 9/11 hijackers. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_of_Attack"><span style="color: #0000ff;">President George W. Bush told Prince Bandar about the invasion of Iraq</span></a> before he told Secretary of State Colin Powell about it (incidentally, another one of Prince Bandar’s close connections).<span id="more-4729"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A19691-2004Apr17?language=printer"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Planning wars</span></a> is just one of many perks that come with having friends in high places. Those connections came in handy when Bandar was accused of siphoning off $100 million per year for 10 years, in a $2 billion contract between Saudi Arabia and <em>BAE</em>.</p>
<p>The <em>al-Yamamah</em> “<em>slush fund</em>” was first reported by a whistleblower in 2001, but British <em>Ministry of Defense</em> covered up those allegations. In 2004, another whistleblower disclosed further details of the bribery scandal to the <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/jun/07/bae1"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Guardian</span></em></a>, prompting an investigation by Britain’s <em>Serious Fraud Office</em>.</p>
<p>In 2005, British <em>Prime Minister</em> Tony Blair made a secret visit to Riyadh to expedite one of <em>BAE&#8217;s</em> deals with the Saudi princes. Blair agreed to sell to the Saudis 24 jets ahead of schedule, by letting them get their hands on the jets that were already allotted for the British armed forces.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/726_BlairSaudi.png" alt="blairsaudi" />In 2006, when investigators were about to gain access to the Swiss bank accounts linked to Saudi royal family, Tony Blair <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/opinion/14thu3.html?ref=bandarbinsultan"><span style="color: #0000ff;">blocked a corruption investigation</span></a> against them. Blair said that the probe would have led nowhere except to the “<em>complete wreckage</em>” of a vital strategic relationship. Translation: “<em>We don’t want to upset our rich Saudi benefactors</em>.” The Saudis were apparently threatening to back out of a lucrative deal and to halt their participation in anti-terrorism efforts. Bandar had arrogantly warned a U.K. official that “<em>British lives on British streets were at risk</em>” if the investigation was allowed to continue.</p>
<p>The British High Court ruled that then-Prime Minister <a href="http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1730126,00.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Tony Blair&#8217;s government may have interfered with the rule of law</span></a> in December 2006, when it ordered the British government&#8217;s <em>Serious Fraud Office</em> <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/2008/04/15/the-prince-and-the-prime-minister.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">to shut down its bribery investigation</span></a>. Blair claimed that his decision to scrap the probe was made purely in the interest of national security. The court blasted him in a scathing rebuke that stated in part, “<em>No one, whether within this country or outside, is entitled to interfere with the course of our justice…It is the failure of Government… to bear that essential principle in mind that justifies the intervention of this court</em>.” Blair also ensured that the report by the <em>National Audit Office</em> (<em>NAO</em>) on <em>BAE&#8217;s</em> dealings in Saudi Arabia was not published. It remains the only <em>NAO</em> report never to have been made public. British <em>Ministry of Defense</em> stated, &#8220;<em>The report remains sensitive. Disclosure would harm both international relations and the UK&#8217;s commercial interests</em>.”<!--more--></p>
<p>In 2007, the <em>Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development </em>(<em>OECD</em>), the world&#8217;s anti-bribery watchdog, rebuked the government for terminating <em>SFO </em>investigation and launched its own inquiry. During the same year, the <em>U.S. Department of Justice </em>was forced to investigate, since the U.K. government was criticized in the press for halting the inquiry. The <em>DOJ</em> had the jurisdiction, since Prince Bandar received some of the funds in question in Washington, DC.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/726_Freeh.png" alt="freeh" />Prince Bandar has retained former <em>FBI</em> Director Louis Freeh to represent him in connection with the <em>DOJ </em>probe. In a <a href="http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/bribe/2009/04/louis-freeh-interview.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">videotaped interview</span></a>, <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/07/nation/na-freeh7"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Freeh admitted on behalf of Bandar</span></a> that approximately $2 billion was sent from the <em>al-Yamamah</em> account in the United Kingdom to bank accounts of the <em>Saudi Ministry of Defense</em> <em>and Aviation</em> at <em>Riggs Bank</em> in Washington, DC. Prince Bandar, who was serving at the time as Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. exercised control and had signatory authority over those bank accounts. <a href="http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/bribe/2009/04/louis-freeh-interview.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Freeh admits that these monies were sent to purchase arms</span></a> through the offices of <em>BAE</em>, which was done <a href="http://www.caat.org.uk/issues/saudi-tna/PJ5_40_DESO_oil_agreement.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">in a way that would circumvent &#8220;objection&#8221; by the <em>U.S. Congress</em></span></a>.</p>
<p>Interestingly enough, former <em>FBI</em> Director Louis Freeh is linked to another aspect of 9/11, as a former boss of John Patrick O&#8217;Neill, a top American anti-terrorism expert. In 1995, O&#8217;Neill investigated the roots of the <em>1993 World Trade Center bombing</em> after he assisted in the capture of Ramzi Yousef. He also investigated the <em>1996 Khobar Towers bombing</em> in Saudi Arabia and the 2000 <em>USS Cole bombing</em> in Yemen.</p>
<p>After years of investigating terrorism, O’Neill was convinced that “<strong><em>All the answers, everything needed to dismantle Osama Bin Laden&#8217;s organization can be found in Saudi Arabia</em></strong>.” In spite of praising O’Neill and his efforts, not everyone shared his enthusiasm for pursuing and exposing the Saudi links to terror. O&#8217;Neill voiced his frustrations with Saudis’ lack of cooperation to Freeh.<!--more--></p>
<p>As a Director of the <em>FBI</em>, Freeh was involved in controversial investigations of the events at the Ruby Ridge and Waco. The <em>FBI</em> under Freeh was accused of such severe cover-ups that <a href="http://partners.nytimes.com/library/national/090399waco-fbi.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>U.S. Marshals</em> had to be dispatched</span></a> to relieve them of the evidence. <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/sep2000/nf20000918_906.htm"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Businessweek</em> called for Freeh to resign</span></a>, stating in part that he “<em>has overseen a bureau that has bungled investigations of high-profile criminal cases and repeatedly misled probers and judges in legal proceedings &#8212; never more shamelessly than in the matter of Los Alamos scientist Wen Ho Lee. At the same time, Freeh&#8217;s FBI has tried to run roughshod over the civil liberties of ordinary citizens, demanding access to encryption codes and elbowing its way onto every PC in the country through its Carnivore project</em>.”</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/06/books/review/06burrough.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>The New York Times</em> wrote</span></a> that “<em>Freeh will probably go down as either the F.B.I. director who slept as terrorists prepared to attack the World Trade Center or as the man who hounded Bill Clinton for seven years</em>.” Interestingly enough, just like Freeh, Bandar has been working to undermine President Bill Clinton for quite some time.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/726_ONeill.png" alt="oneill" />John P. O&#8217;Neill certainly wasn’t sleeping on his watch or worrying about sexual proclivities of mischievous Presidents. He had gained a tremendous knowledge of Osama Bin Laden&#8217;s <em>Al Qaeda</em> terrorist network, but was repeatedly excluded from terrorism investigations. He became the target of a smear campaign and was subjected to petty internal inquiries. This is not uncommon within federal government, as a <a href="http://www.examiner.com/homeland-security-in-los-angeles/office-of-special-counsel-osc-the-dark-legacy"><span style="color: #0000ff;">tactic that is routinely used</span></a> to silence those who come across any information that has the potential of embarrassing the government. Freeh was reportedly involved in those attempts to force O&#8217;Neill out of the <em>Bureau</em>.</p>
<p>After leaving the <em>FBI</em>, O&#8217;Neill became the head of security at the <em>World Trade Center</em>, where he <a href="http://edition.cnn.com/2001/US/09/21/vic.body.terror.expert/"><span style="color: #0000ff;">perished in the September 11, 2001 attacks</span></a>, while attempting to save others.</p>
<p>In a book “<em>The Age of Sacred Terror</em>”, Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon state that Louis Freeh deliberately withheld information about Bin Laden and the precursors for the attack of <em>9/11</em> from the White House.</p>
<p>Richard A. Clarke, a former top counter-terrorism advisor for the White House, criticized Freeh and his actions in his book, “<em>Against All Enemies: Inside America&#8217;s War on Terror</em>.” Clarke also expressed serious concerns about Freeh’s representation of Bandar, stating, &#8220;<em>Someone who characterizes himself as a U.S. patriot and national security advocate ought not to be on the side of someone blackmailing people not to investigate crimes by threatening to withdraw a nation&#8217;s cooperation against terrorists</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p>Prior to his tenure as the <em>FBI</em> Director, Freeh was appointed by President George H. W. Bush as a <em>U.S. District Court Judge </em>for the<em> Southern District of New York</em>. He also forged an alliance with “<em>Bandar Bush</em>”. <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2001/05/14/010514fa_fact_walsh?currentPage=2"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Freeh traveled to Saudi Arabia many times</span></a>, meeting with Bandar and the highest levels of Saudi government in a relationship that started during Freeh’s investigation of the <em>1996 Khobar bombing</em>. The secrecy surrounding it has been such that Dale Watson, the <em>FBI’s</em> Chief of Counter-Terrorism, once said, “<em>It’s a killing offense around here to talk about it</em>.”<!--more--></p>
<p>What was Freeh doing during that time? <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2001/05/14/010514fa_fact_walsh?currentPage=3"><span style="color: #0000ff;">He started courting Bandar</span></a>, spending time in his heavily guarded mansion in McLean, Virginia. Bandar also visited Freeh at his <em>FBI </em>office, where the privileged Saudi visitor was the only one ever allowed to smoke cigars. Louis Freeh was bending over backwards to express <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2001/05/14/010514fa_fact_walsh?currentPage=7"><span style="color: #0000ff;">his respect of the Arab culture and Sharia</span></a>. He was “<a href="http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2001/05/14/010514fa_fact_walsh?currentPage=3"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">cultivating personal relationships</span></em></a>” with Bandar, as well as the <em>Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia</em> and other prominent Saudi officials. Freeh said, “<em>The statutory authorities and the resources and all the other factors are significant, but my experience is that none of them are as important as those relationships</em>.”</p>
<p>Could those relationships be the reason behind Freeh’s failure to pursue Saudi links to terror? His shameless hobnobbing with the Saudis has proven to be important (and lucrative) indeed, since Louis Freeh left the <em>FBI</em> and went on to represent Prince Bandar. <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2001/05/14/010514fa_fact_walsh?currentPage=3"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>The New Yorker</em> reported</span></a> that “<em>Bandar, like Freeh, is skilled at cultivating people to get things done. Unlike other ambassadors, who exist on the ceremonial fringe, Bandar has real power</em>.”</p>
<p><a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/terrorism/interviews/bandar.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Prince Bandar said</span></a>, “<em>If you tell me… that we misused or got corrupted with $50 billion, I&#8217;ll tell you, &#8220;Yes.&#8221; … But, more important, more important &#8212; <strong>who are you to tell me this</strong>? &#8230; What I&#8217;m trying to tell you is, <strong>so what</strong>? <strong>We did not invent corruption</strong>, nor did those dissidents, who are so genius, discover it. <strong>This happened since Adam and Eve</strong>. &#8230; <strong>I mean, this is human nature</strong></em>.”</p>
<p>In 2008, when <em>BAE</em> refused to cooperate with the bribery investigation, the <em>DOJ </em>detained its former CEO Mike Turner and other top executives at the airport for questioning. <em>The Times</em> (Rupert Murdoch’s company, which boasts significant Saudi ownership) complained that “<em>such humiliating behaviour by the DOJ was unusual because most companies co-operate with regulators</em>.” Most companies may cooperate with regulators, but <em>BAE</em> was clearly not one of them.</p>
<p>On February 5, 2010, <a href="http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2010/March/10-crm-209.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>BAE</em> pled guilty to foreign bribery charges</span></a>, conspiring to defraud the United States, to make false statements about its <em>Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) </em>compliance program, to violate the <em>Arms Export Control Act (AECA) </em>and <em>International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).</em> According to the <a href="http://www.justice.gov/criminal/pr/documents/03-01-10BAE-information.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">statement of criminal information</span></a> filed by the <em>DOJ</em>,<em> BAE’s</em> gains from these violations exceeded $200 million dollars. <a href="http://www.willkie.com/files/tbl_s29Publications%5CFileUpload5686%5C3231%5CBAE%20Reaches%20Global%20Settlement%20With%20US%20and%20UK%20Authorities.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>BAE</em> was ordered to pay $447 million dollars</span></a> in fines to U.S authorities &#8211; one of the largest criminal fines in the history of <em>DOJ. </em></p>
<p>The <em>DOJ </em>filing reflected that <em>BAE</em> began serving as the prime contractor to the U.K. government in the mid-1980s, after the U.K. and the <em>Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) </em>entered into a formal agreement. <a href="http://www.justice.gov/criminal/pr/documents/03-01-10BAE-information.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>BAE</em> started to provide millions to Prince Bandar</span></a> (whose name the <em>DOJ</em> conspicuously omitted from its charging papers, referring to “<em>Bandar Bush</em>” as “<em>KSA official</em>”), who was in a position of influence regarding sales of fighter jets, other defense materials and related support services. Over a billion dollars was reportedly sent to two Saudi embassy accounts in Washington, DC <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6728773.stm"><span style="color: #0000ff;">controlled by Prince Bandar</span></a>. <em>BAE</em> also transferred over a billion dollars to a bank account in Switzerland controlled by an intermediary, being aware that these payments would also go to Prince Bandar. It is claimed that Bandar <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/jun/07/bae1"><span style="color: #0000ff;">received over $1 billion dollars</span></a> over the course of 10 years, with the knowledge and authorization of British <em>Ministry of Defense</em> officials.</p>
<p>Following <em>BAE’s </em>criminal conviction by the <em>DOJ</em>, the <a href="http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/compliance/consent_agreements/pdf/BAES_PCL.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>U.S. State Department</em> also filed charges</span></a> against the company for committing over 2,591 separate violations, <a href="http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2011/05/163530.htm"><span style="color: #0000ff;">which were settled in May of 2011</span></a> for a <a href="http://www.pmddtc.state.gov/compliance/consent_agreements/pdf/BAES_Order%20.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">civil fine of $79 million dollars</span></a>. In an Internet notice posted on March 1, 2010, the <em>State Department</em> advised export license applicants to remove <em>BAE</em> products from their applications, if possible. That portion of the notice was withdrawn the very next day. <a href="http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4523735"><span style="color: #0000ff;">In a comment to <em>“Defense News”</em></span></a> about such blatant back-peddling, a Washington trade lawyer commented, “<em>What State has done sends a terrible message. It makes it seem like State does not have a handle on what it wants to do &#8211; <strong>or that it&#8217;s being manipulated by outside interests</strong></em>.”</p>
<p>The <em>State Department</em> noted that <em>BAE’s</em> willful refusal to cooperate resulted in “<em>the incomplete nature of the investigation</em>” and therefore the government was <strong>unable “<em>to assess fully the potential harm to U.S. national security</em></strong>.” Nonetheless, the settlement rescinded the statutory debarment, allowing <em>BAE</em> to get right back to business. <em>BAE</em> is apparently “<em>too big to bar</em>.” Although the company was sanctioned with a criminal fine of over $400 million for its foreign corrupt practices, none of <em>BAE’s</em> executives were prosecuted. A felony conviction could have interfered with <em>BAE’s</em> ability to compete for U.S. contracts, but it didn’t. No one seemed too concerned that <em>BAE</em> paid millions in bribes, to include payments made to the likes of Augusto Pinochet, the former <em>Chilean dictator</em>. In the 365 days that followed, <em>BAE</em> was awarded roughly $58 billion in US government contracts.</p>
<p>Similarly, nothing got in the way of <a href="http://production.investis.com/armorholdings/home_read_more/"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>BAE&#8217;s</em> takeover of the US-based <em>Armor</em> <em>Holdings</em></span></a>. U.S. regulators approved <a href="http://www.baesystems.com/Newsroom/NewsReleases/autoGen_107631191035.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">the deal</span></a>, in spite of the company’s history of multibillion dollar bribery and corruption. The <em>Wall Street Journal</em> (Rupert Murdoch’s company, which boasts significant Saudi ownership) reported that the purchase would bolster <em>BAE’s</em> expansion in the U.S. and the increase of its involvement in military ground vehicles. Bribery and corruption continued. On July 13, 2011, <em>Armor Holdings</em> <a href="http://www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/2011/lr22037.htm"><span style="color: #0000ff;">settled charges of bribery</span></a> with the <em>Department of Justice </em>and the <em>SEC</em>. The charges arise out of bribes paid to obtain contracts to supply body armor for U.N. peacekeepers (<a href="http://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2011/comp22037.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>SEC v. Armor Holdings, Inc., </em>Case No. 1:11-CV-01271</span></a>).  <em>Armor Holdings</em> agreed to pay a total of $5,690,744 to the <em>SEC </em>and $10,290,000 to the <em>U.S. Department of Justice</em> to resolve the charges. Of course, none of the company’s executives were prosecuted.</p>
<p>In 2005, <a href="http://www.uniteddefense.com/pr/pr_20050624b.htm"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>BAE</em> purchased <em>United Defense Industries</em></span></a>, maker of combat vehicles, artillery, naval guns, missile launchers and precision munitions.</p>
<p>The implication of these dealings is that a company under control of Saudi money and influence, with a documented history of bribery and corruption, owns an enormous slice of the American defense industry, striving to be the Pentagon’s biggest supplier. The threat surpasses the “<em>Fast and Furious</em>” faux pas on an unimaginable scale, because Saudi Arabia (<a href="http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/45189.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">with its undeniable links to terror</span></a>) now controls massive military enterprises inside the U.S.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cfr.org/content/publications/attachments/Terrorist_Financing_TF.pdf"><span style="color: #0000ff;">A report, prepared by a bipartisan panel of terrorism experts for the <em>Council on Foreign Relations</em></span></a>, sharply criticized the Bush administration for its lackadaisical approach towards <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A36948-2002Oct16?language=printer"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Saudi Arabia’s involvement in terror funding</span></a>, which remains a “<em>lethal threat</em>” to the United States. <em>CFR</em> report concludes that “<em>it is worth stating clearly and unambiguously <strong>what official U.S. government spokespersons have not</strong>:</em> “<em>For years, individuals and charities based in Saudi Arabia have been the most important source of funds for al-Qaeda</em>… <em>It would be wrong to say that no progress has been made… But it would be equally wrong to overstate the progress that has been made—<strong>a mistake that is too often made by U.S. government spokespersons</strong>. In recent years, for instance, Saudi Arabia has taken two or three important steps to improve its capability to cooperate on these matters with the United States, for which it should be commended. <strong>A hundred more steps and Saudi Arabia may be where it needs to be</strong></em>.”</p>
<p>The report profoundly summarized why the U.S. is neither being taken seriously by the rest of the world in our “<em>war on terror</em>”, nor does our own government take it seriously enough to abandon its unholy alliances: “<em>The Task Force appreciates the necessary delicacies of diplomacy and notes that previous administrations also used phrases that <strong>obfuscated more than they illuminated</strong> when making public statements on this subject. Nevertheless, when <strong>U.S. spokespersons are willing to say only that “Saudi Arabia is being cooperative” when they know very well all the ways in which it is not, both our allies and our adversaries can be forgiven for believing that the United States does not place a high priority on this issue</strong></em>.”</p>
<p>No one can deny the fact that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia and Osama Bin Laden himself was Saudi-born. During a 2002 raid on a Saudi-based charity, <em>Benevolence International Foundation</em>, <em>FBI</em> agents discovered a handwritten list of 20 alleged <em>Al Qaeda</em> financiers. Bin Laden referred to this informal financial network of prominent Saudi and Gulf individuals as “<em>the Golden Chain</em>.” <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2003/aug/02/nation/na-saudi2"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>FBI</em> agents said</span></a> that two Saudis with direct links to Al Qaeda, Omar al-Bayoumi and Osama Bassnan, acted as conduits for financial aid for the 9/11 hijackers and other Saudi militants. They received &#8220;<em>seemingly unlimited funding</em>&#8221; from Saudi Arabia. Bassnan and his family reportedly obtained <a href="http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2007/3426bandar_9-11.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">significant support</span></a> from Princess Haifa al-Faisal, wife of Prince Bandar.</p>
<p>In the days following 9/11, with the blessing of George W. Bush, at least six private jets and nearly two dozen commercial planes carried the Saudis and the Bin Ladens out of the U.S. In all, 142 Saudis, including 24 members of the Bin Laden family, were allowed to leave the country. At least one private plane flew to pick up Saudi nationals while private flights were still grounded. The White House denied the very existence of that flight for years, until they finally <a href="http://www.sptimes.com/2004/06/09/Tampabay/TIA_now_verifies_flig.shtml"><span style="color: #0000ff;">revealed some of its details</span></a> in response to a request from the <em>9/11 Commission</em>. Former Counterterrorism Chief Richard Clarke testified before the <em>Senate Judiciary Committee </em>on September 3, 2003 and stated in part: “<em>It is true that members of the Bin Laden family were among</em><em> </em><em>those who left. We knew that at the time. I can&#8217;t say much more in open session, but it was a conscious decision with complete review</em><em> </em><em>at the highest levels of the State Department and the FBI and the White House</em>.” </p>
<p>In 2002, <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,71273,00.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">the <em>Congress</em> noted</span></a> that Saudi links to 9/11 are not being adequately explored.</p>
<p>In 2003, <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2003/aug/02/nation/na-saudi2"><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>Los Angeles Times</em> reported</span></a> that the classified pages were kept out of a congressional report about 9/11. They demonstrated that the Saudi government not only provided significant money and aid to the suicide hijackers, but also allowed hundreds of millions of dollars to flow to <em>Al Qaeda</em> and other terrorist groups through suspect charities and other fronts. A U.S. official who has read the document said that it describes &#8220;<em>very direct, very specific links</em>&#8221; between Saudi officials, two of the San Diego-based hijackers and other potential co-conspirators &#8220;<em>that cannot be passed off as rogue, isolated or coincidental</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p>In his book, “<em>Intelligence Matters</em>”, former Florida Senator Robert Graham also highlighted connections between a Saudi government spy and the planners of the terrorist attacks, criticizing the deletion of 28 pages from the <em>9/11 Commission Report </em>that dealt with Saudi Arabia.</p>
<p>“<em>The Commission: The Uncensored History Of The 9/11 Investigation</em>”, written by Philip Shenon, an investigative reporter for the <em>New York Times</em>, discusses revelations contained in a classified portion of a <em>House-Senate Joint Intelligence Committee </em>report. It discusses the Saudi links to the 9/11 attacks. The pages pertaining to the Saudi connections never saw the light of day because the White House invoked executive privilege.</p>
<p>While the officials refuse to declassify this information, Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld exposed them in her book, “<a href="http://smashinginterviews.com/interviews/newsmakers/dr-rachel-ehrenfeld-interview-terrorism-funding-expert-on-speech-act-and-911"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Funding Evil: How Terrorism is Financed and How to Stop It</span></em></a><em>”. She was subsequently sued by Saudi billionaire </em>Khalid bin Mahfouz <em>for “</em><em>libel</em><em>” and relentlessly harassed by his affiliates. </em>Ehrenfeld, Director of the New York-based <em>American Center for Democracy</em>, refused to be intimidated. She championed the <em>SPEECH Act </em>(<em>the Securing the Protection of our Enduring and Established Constitutional Heritage</em>) to guard American authors and publishers from enforcement of frivolous foreign libel judgments that undermine the First Amendment and American due process standards. This bill was signed into law on August 10, 2010.</p>
<p>Frustrated by the government’s failure to hold anyone personally accountable in the <em>BAE </em>bribery scandal, the city of Harper Woods, Michigan has filed a lawsuit against <em>BAE</em> <em>Systems</em> over allegations that the company funneled bribes to Prince Bandar. Harper Woods was intimately involved in a $100 billion international arms deal, because its $40 million employee pension fund includes about $135,000 invested in <em>BAE Systems</em>. William Bradford Reynolds, who served as the <em>Chief of the Justice Department&#8217;s </em>civil rights division during the Reagan administration, signed on to represent Bandar in this lawsuit. During this litigation, a <a href="http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91332402"><span style="color: #0000ff;">U.S. court froze Prince Bandar’s assets</span></a> in the U.S., reportedly worth over $150 million dollars.</p>
<p>Bandar was clearly <a href="http://www.newsweek.com/2008/04/15/the-prince-and-the-prime-minister.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">furious about these developments</span></a>. When George W. Bush visited Saudi Arabia, he asked, “<em>Where&#8217;s my pal Bandar?</em>” In response, he was told that Bandar is unavailable. During Cheney’s visit to Saudi Arabia, old pal Bandar was similarly a no-show.</p>
<p>In 2009, the U.S. District court dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice, holding that English law controls and therefore the city of Harper Woods has no standing to pursue the action. This was a predictable outcome, given the political control of the U.S. government over the judiciary. For the last quarter of a century, motivated by greed, many of our elected officials chose to hold the interests of Saudi Arabian oligarchs above those of the American people.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/726_Gates.png" alt="gates" />As of 2011, Bandar is back as a force in world politics. He was present in <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/07/world/middleeast/07military.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">recent meetings</span></a> between <em>Secretary of Defense</em> Robert M. Gates (former director of the <em>CIA</em>) and <em>King Abdullah</em>, as well as during a separate <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/tom-donilons-arab-spring-challenge/2011/04/26/AFWVE2sE_story.html"><span style="color: #0000ff;">visit by National Security Advisor Tom Donilon</span></a>. <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/10/20/us-usa-saudi-arms-idUSTRE69J4ML20101020"><span style="color: #0000ff;">United States’ recently sold $60 billion worth of arms to Saudi Arabia</span></a>, including 84 new F-15 fighter jets (in addition to upgrading 70 of their existing F-15s), 190 helicopters as well as a wide array of missiles and bombs. The deal was announced while Congress was in recess, to ensure that it would move forward without interruptions by any possible opponents.</p>
<p>This was the largest purchase of American arms in Saudi Arabia’s history. <a href="http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/04/ap-military-robert-gates-in-saudi-arabia-040611/"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Gates also urged King Abdullah</span></a> to buy an upgraded version of <em>Patriot</em> air defense missiles and the <em>Theater High-Altitude Area Defense System</em>, which is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles of longer range. Gates told reporters, “<em>I think the relationship is in a good place.</em>” This “<em>relationship</em>” seems to be blooming indeed, since the U.S. continues to sell arms to the country with direct ties to terrorism.</p>
<p>You may have noticed that the mainstream media avoids discussing the issues of Saudi influence and links to 9/11. There’s a good explanation for that. It so happens that the second largest shareholder of <em>News Corp</em>. is Saudi billionaire, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. His slice of the pie is topped only by the holdings of Rupert Murdoch himself.</p>

<p>Not to be outdone, Jeffrey Immelt of <em>General Electric</em>, a company that owns <em>MSNBC</em> and is already <a href="http://www.ge.com/sa/"><span style="color: #0000ff;">firmly entrenched in Saudi Arabia</span></a>, also <a href="http://www.zawya.com/story.cfm/sidZAWYA20070207121753/Prince%20Alwaleed%20&amp;%20Mr.%20Immelt,%20GE's%20Chairman%20&amp;%20CEO%20Form%20a%20Committee%20to%20Explore%20All%20Possible%20Means%20of%20Cooperation%20Locally%20&amp;%20Regionally"><span style="color: #0000ff;">approached Al-Waleed and solicited him to invest in <em>GE</em></span></a>.</p>
<p>In case you were wondering, the acronym “MSM” nowadays stands for “<strong><em>Mainly Saudi Media</em></strong>”.</p>
<p>Al-Waleed was quoted asserting that Arab countries can <a href="http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2010/02/09/opinion/doc4b70ebb097853325026342.txt?viewmode=default"><span style="color: #0000ff;">influence U.S. decision-making</span></a> “<em>if they unite through economic interests, not political…We have to be logical and understand that the U.S. administration is subject to U.S. public opinion…<strong>And to bring the decision-maker on your side, you not only have to be active inside the U.S. Congress or the administration, but also inside U.S. society</strong></em>.” Al-Waleed donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the building of a Muslim community center and mosque near Ground Zero in Manhattan, also known as <a href="http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/08/21/fox-shareholder-funded-mosque-imam/"><span style="color: #0000ff;">the &#8220;<em>Ground Zero Mosque</em>&#8220;</span></a>. The majority of the American public didn’t take too kindly to that idea.</p>
<p><a href="http://hir.harvard.edu/predicting-the-present/getting-a-facelift"><span style="color: #0000ff;">To bolster their public image</span></a>, the Saudis hired a <a href="http://www.qorvis.com/case-studies/media-and-government-relations-kingdom-saudi-arabia"><span style="color: #0000ff;">PR firm</span></a> and scores of high-powered Washington lobbyists. Saudi Arabia’s shabby public image in the U.S. has long been exacerbated by reports of a barbaric judicial system that believes in chopping off heads and limbs, complete absence of religious freedom, nonexistent human rights and ongoing abuses against women. According to the <em>Department of Justice </em>records, Saudi Arabia has spent over $20 million dollars on public relations, advertising and lobbying. Relentless PR efforts to clean up the Saudi image initially failed (especially when <a href="http://articles.cnn.com/2001-10-11/us/rec.giuliani.prince_1_saudi-prince-alwaleed-bin-israeli-withdrawal-criminal-attack?_s=PM:US"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Al-Waleed claimed that the U.S. Foreign policy is to blame for the attacks of 9/11</span></a>), but later started to pay off. The positive image of Saudi Arabia is being pushed in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.</p>
<p>Starting in 2002, series of ads appeared on American TV, in major newspapers and magazines, were broadcast on radio stations and popped up all over the Internet. All of them featured slogans, representing Saudis as America’s allies in the “<em>war on terror</em>”. In August 2004, following the final release of the <em>9/11 Commission Report</em>, the Saudi government paid for a series of new radio ads, repeatedly reiterating that no link had been established between Saudi Arabia and the terror attacks of 9/11.</p>
<p>One of the PR firms hired by Saudi Arabia, <em>Qorvis Communications</em>, who received millions for their activities, lobbied on Saudi Arabia’s behalf with US Congressional staffers 62 times in the first half of 2004. Saudi Arabia also arranged series of meetings with the editorial boards of major US newspapers, including <em>The New York Times</em> and <em>USA Today</em>, and secured appearances on numerous cable news programs.</p>
<p>A feature film “<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1401152/companycredits"><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">Unknown</span></em></a>” prominently features a character of a benevolent and magnanimous Saudi prince who bankrolled an expensive research project to create a genetically modified strain of corn that could eliminate world hunger. The film “<em>Unknown”</em> is based on the novel “<em>Out of My Head”</em> by Didier van Cauwelaert. There is no such a character in the original version of the story. One has to wonder if this feature film is just another extension of Saudi Arabia’s multimillion dollar PR campaign.</p>
<p>Anything that challenges <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/08/saudiarabia-oil"><span style="color: #0000ff;">the dominance of Saudi Arabia</span></a>, as it <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/from-the-archive-blog/2011/jun/10/wikileaks-guardian-cables-2010"><span style="color: #0000ff;">holds the rest of the world over an oil barrel</span></a>, or <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-embassy-cables-documents/198178"><span style="color: #0000ff;">exposes the complicity of First World country governments</span></a> is assaulted with all the might of the <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-embassy-cables-documents/162960"><span style="color: #0000ff;">brute force</span></a> that <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-embassy-cables-documents/206346"><span style="color: #0000ff;">deems itself too powerful to be held accountable</span></a>. It’s quite a spectacular feat for a primitive oligarchy of Saudi Arabia to achieve <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/08/saudiarabia-oil1"><span style="color: #0000ff;">such a level of control</span></a> over the world’s supposed super-powers through oil and money, usurping ownership of Western arms, politics and mainstream media. Money does make the world go ‘round – and with this much money being thrown around, our world seems to be spinning out of control.</p>

The primary purpose of the Prozac Caucus will be to raise awareness and advocate for this ‘<em>miracle drug</em>’ aka ‘<em>happiness pill</em>,’ on the grounds of combating homegrown terrorism and domestic violence, lowering the national divorce rate, and increasing the level of general job satisfaction among the restless American workforce. “<em>Increasing the level of general satisfaction and happiness, while decreasing the effects of violence and despair inducing factors such as anxiety and depression, are the major keys to achieving long term national security, family unity, and work force stability. With Prozac we believe we can achieve all that and more,</em>” said a congressional aide who wished to remain anonymous. The caucus will have an interactive website with easy-to-print promotional materials and a password protected section for physicians titled ‘Patriotic Physicians for a Secure America.’</p>
<p>Let’s start with what is a congressional caucus, or at least what it is supposed to be, in theory that is. A congressional caucus is a coalition of House and Senate members who meet to discuss specific legislative priorities and policy issues. Caucuses ‘<em>supposedly</em>’ allow members to discuss issues to determine their positions and make sure their votes are informed. They can also give ‘<em>advocates</em>’ a chance for a group of legislators to champion their cause on the Hill. You may go ahead and change ‘advocates’ to ‘<em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">lobby</span></em> and you’ll be even more on target.</p>
<p>When we look at the <a href="http://thatsmycongress.com/index.php/2009/03/10/list-of-websites-for-house-caucuses-in-the-111th-congress/">long list</a> of these caucuses, a list that initially had only a few but seems to lately  have taken off rapidly, we see some caucuses that seem rather ‘<em>ordinary and expected</em>;’ for example,  Children’s Environmental Health Caucus or Congressional Dairy Farmers Caucus. We also see some ‘<em>amusing’</em> ones, such as Congressional Bike Caucus, Congressional Soccer Caucus, and Congressional Boating Caucus.</p>
<p>You follow me so far? Okay, then there are more than a few caucuses that are ‘<em>confusing</em>:’ Democratic Israel Working Group, Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, Congressional Friends of Jordan Caucus, and other ones for Turkey, Jordan, etc.  Why do I say ‘<em>confusing</em>’? Well, in the above paragraph we outlined the caucus definition, which includes ‘giving advocates, aka lobbies, a chance to influence, aka lobby, their cause through the members of their caucus. In this case, the advocates, aka lobbies, are foreign, and this means ‘<em>direct foreign influence</em>,’ and that in turn would make the representatives in these caucuses who then influence and lobby the rest of the Congress ‘<em>foreign agents.</em>’ Think of it as two-tiered foreign lobbies: <span id="more-3116"></span>First, the registered foreign lobby influencing the target caucus, then, the caucus acting as a lobby for that foreign lobby to influence and lobby the rest of the Congress.</p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Drone222.png" alt="dron" />Finally, there are some ‘<em>just plain eyebrow-raising’</em> caucuses that have been popping up and gaining momentum recently. Probably you haven’t heard of them. Please don’t kick yourself for not knowing. Save that kick, or cancellation of subscription, for the news media you’ve been following. Okay, back to ‘eyebrow-raising’ caucuses. Here is one example:  <strong>The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Caucus</strong>, which has recently <a href="http://uavc.mckeon.house.gov/2011/01/unmanned-aerial-vehicle-caucus-officially-renamed-unmanned-systems-caucus.html">changed</a> its name <strong>to the Unmanned Systems Caucus</strong>. Thanks to Corey Pein’s <a href="http://www.warisbusiness.com/news/congressional-uav-boosters-collected-nearly-1-8-million/">WarisBusiness</a> site I was made aware of this scandalous caucus:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>The motivation for members to join the UAV Caucus (not to be confused with the </em><a href="http://www.avclub.com/" target="_blank"><em>A/V Club</em></a><em>) may be national security or job creation, but the caucus is also where members of Congress directly show their allegiance to an industry that donated generously to their war chests.</em></p>
<p><em>How much? In the 2010 election cycle alone, UAV-related political-action committees donate more than $1.7 million to the Caucus’ 42 members.</em></p>
<p><em>In February 2009, Rep. Buck McKeon (R-CA), at the time the ranking Republican on House Armed Services, co-founded the UAV Caucus. He began to hold meetings on the future of the military systems and by the end of the year he had launched a website–on House servers–for the caucus, which was ostensibly designed to provide news on UAVs and connect members of Congress with the industry. </em></p>

<p><em>We filtered the 200 AUVSI corporate members to only the “Diamond” and “Platinum” members, then further narrowed the list to only those with corporate PACs. A stark picture emerged: Altogether, these PACs accounted for $1,788,800 in contributions in the 2010 to the members of the caucus. This figure doesn’t include members who weren’t reelected, such as AUV Caucus co-founder Rep. Allan Mollahan (D-WV), who was defeated in last year’s Democratic primary. Two of the newest members of the caucus—Rick Berg (R-ND) and Vicky Hartzler (R-MO)—received nothing from these PACs, probably because their incumbent opponents were the defense industry’s favorites.</em></p>

<p>You can read the rest of Pein’s revelatory piece <a href="http://www.warisbusiness.com/news/congressional-uav-boosters-collected-nearly-1-8-million/">here</a>, but I think you all get the point on ‘<em>eyebrow-raising</em>’ caucuses. I guess it wasn’t a really long leap from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Caucus to the Bipartisan Caucus for Prozac!</p>
<p>The expected chairman of the upcoming caucus who would neither deny nor confirm the formation of the Caucus for Prozac had the following to say (of course on the condition of anonymity):<!--more--></p>
<blockquote><p>“Listen, I’ve always taken pride in being a constitutionalist, and the formation of this caucus is further proof…Somewhere in the Constitution it says people should pursue happiness and their government should help them go get it. See? This is exactly what this caucus is about: help and encourage people to get happiness!”</p></blockquote>
<p>The congressman may have been a bit under the ‘happiness pill’ influence. He must have meant the <a href="http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/document/">Declaration of Independence</a>; not the ‘<em>Constitution</em>,’ and, the passage he must have been thinking of was probably this:  ‘<em>All men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…</em>’Oh well, at least they are taking the pill they are anxious to sell others.</p>
<p>The expected co-chairman from the opposite party also commented off the record:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>“As a nation we are losing our edge, our competitiveness, in so many areas; manufacturing, R &amp; D, services…even in the Global Happiness Index!! We are America. We must be number one.  It is time to declare war on unhappiness! With this caucus we are doing just that: declaring war on unhappiness, and getting competitive on the happiness front. If unhappiness is the enemy, this pill is the weapon to kill it…to quash the damn thing. With this caucus we’ll get Americans to swallow this pill… swallow it big time, and in no time they will rank number one again…at least in the happiness department…”</em></p></blockquote>
<p>The expected cochairman was talking about the annual <a href="http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-maps/happiness.html">World Happiness Index</a> report on countries. Judging from his hawkish tone and aggressive language, he was either not taking the pill, or, exhibiting one of the known adverse reactions to it. The follow up call to check on this was not returned.</p>
<p>With the new trend taking hold in the formation of congressional caucuses, some refer to them as neo-caucuses, other members are frantically working to stake out new territories and mark their turf. There are many empty caucus spots to grab: The Caucus for McDonalds, The Caucus for the F-35, The Caucus for JP Morgan, The Caucus for Pepsi Cola …So many caucuses to form, so little time!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Would former icons of the civil rights movement sell out their principles for foreign cash?</strong></p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/CBC.png" alt="CBC" /><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 6px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/Miguels-Corner.png"/>A February 13 <em>New York Times</em> <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/14/us/politics/14cbc.html">article</a> exposed the degree to which the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), a group composed of African Americans in the U.S. House of Representatives, used loopholes in political finance laws to raise $55 million in unregulated corporate money through a network of nonprofits from 2004 to 2008.  The money in question is principally channeled through the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and is ostensibly to be used for scholarships for disadvantaged African American students.  However, the analysis of reporters Eric Lipton and Eric Lichtbau demonstrates that the majority of the funds have actually been used for junkets, parties, golf outings and boondoggles; as well as the retirement of the mortgage for a headquarters building on Embassy Row. In regards to the paid off headquarters building of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), Lipton and Lichtbau write:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>…in 2008, a jazz band was playing at what amounted to a mortgage-burning party for the $4 million town house.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Curiously, the authors do not mention where exactly this little jazz celebration took place.  One might assume it was held in the CBC’s own building, or in the Mississippi Casino Resort that is mentioned further down in the article.  Luckily, the reader only has to go to the CBCF’s own website to find where the party took place in April, 2008:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>CBCF celebrated the acquisition of its building at the historic residence of the Turkish Ambassador on Embassy Row.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>To most casual observers, the Turkish Embassy would seem an odd place for a foundation run by a group of African American legislators to hold a celebration of such historic measure.  It turns out, however, that there is some connection between the two communities. One famous Turkish-American, Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, had a great appreciation for jazz and helped to promote the growth of black music in the United States. However, reporting last year from Washington D.C., freelance reporter Joshua Kucera <a href="http://www.eurasianet.org/departments/insight/articles/eav042508a.shtml">suggested</a> something a little deeper might be going on between the Turkish lobbyists and CBC members than a simple shared love for soul music:<span id="more-1685"></span></p>
<blockquote><p><em>Turkish lobbying groups have specifically targeted black members of Congress. Twelve members of the Congressional Black Caucus are also in the Turkish Caucus, according to Lydia Borland.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Ankara’s lobby in the U.S., which now seems to be principally coordinated through the Turkish Coalition USA PAC and the American Turkish Council, seems to have been successful in getting several black members of Congress, all Democrats, on board as members of the 72 member Congressional Turkish Caucus.  Turkey’s representatives in the U.S. have recruited a total of 12 African American members, comprising more than 25% of the Congressional Black Caucus.  The list includes a well-known name from the civil rights movement, John Lewis of Georgia as well as the son of a civil rights leader, Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois.    This is quite a large percentage of African American Congresspersons that Ms. Borland and her associates have recruited.   One might brush the 25% statistic off, were it not for an inherent contradiction in their association with the Congressional Turkish Caucus:  some of these African Americans in Congress, including Mr. Lewis, are staunch opponents of the genocide in Darfur. Yet, hypocritically, they have tied themselves with a Turkish regime that is not exactly known as the world leader on civil rights and which,  furthermore,  refuses to acknowledge the genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire during World War I.    </p>
<p>Turkey is a wonderful country, with a rich history and culture, but the Turkish denial of the 1915 Armenian Genocide is just one of many black stains on its government’s human rights record.  In Turkey, writers and activists face jail or risk assassination by death squads (as occurred in the case of Hrant Dink) for openly discussing the Genocide.  In the United States, Turkey has little power to unleash its police force, but has instead built formidable lobbying power to fight tooth and nail against Congressional recognition of the Armenian Genocide.  Sibel Edmonds, the proprietor of this journal, has even come across evidence that Turkish interests (not only at governmental levels) have gone so far as to bribe members of the U.S. Congress in order to prevent any vote on the matter from coming to the House Floor (The former Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert, is alleged to have pulled a Resolution in 2000, even though a key Congressional seat in a district in California with a large Armenian community hung in the balance.)  </p>
<p>It should be said that the average Turkish citizen, facing the repression of the Turkish police and military apparatus, may have much in common with the African American community in the United States, but the oppressed masses of Turkey are not the kind of people the Turkish lobby represents.  </p>
<p>While there is no evidence that anything illegal is going on between some members of the Black Caucus and the Turkish government, the CBC’s apparently less than ethical attitude towards taking excessive corporate donations and the Turkish predilection for skirting U.S. campaign finance laws to get its way in the halls of Congress does leave one to wonder: would former icons of the civil rights movement sell out their principles for foreign cash?  One can only hope that this is not the case. However, given the corrosive influence of money on American political life, we should not take for granted that any Congressperson, black or white, is immune from the pressures of an aggressive and well-funded foreign lobby.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><center><strong>The Erosion &amp; Rotting of a Nation’s Foundation</strong></center></p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Termites.png" alt="Termites" />While dictionaries and encyclopedias, including Wikipedia, provide a thorough definition and description of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Termite">insect termites</a>, none offers any information on the semi-human termites imbedded within the political system of our nation, where they feed on the lobby and special interest Political Eco System while they cause serious foundational and structural damage to the welfare of the public majority, and to future generations’ prosperity and liberties. These Political System Termites (PST) and their colonies exist and thrive within various branches and layers of the political governing system, and they go by different names or titles, including Representative, Senator, Secretary, and Advisor. Regardless of title differences and purely cosmetic differentiations and technicalities, they belong to the same political eco system and all are considered members of the PST family. This article will focus mainly on Congressional Termites.</p>
<p>Let’s start by comparing some general overlapping characteristics between the widely acknowledged and recognized insect termites and the still-waiting-to-be recognized and defined Political System Termites (PST):</p>
<blockquote><p>Insect termites divide labor among gender lines, produce overlapping generations and take care of their young collectively. Political System Termites divide their activities based on a corruption hierarchy, create networks of laws and legislations to protect themselves and the establishment, and protect one another collectively, including their retired then turned lobbyist seniors &#8211;  regardless of cosmetic brand differentiations, such as ‘D’ or ‘R.’</p>
<p>Insect termites are economically significant as pests that can cause serious structural damage to buildings, crops or plantation forests. Political System Termites are also economically and politically significant as pests that can create a seriously damaging web of laws and regulations particularly harmful to society at large, while sucking up taxpayers’ resources and trust, and betraying the people’s interests in exchange for establishment and external interest connected personal gain.</p>
<p>Insect termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundred to several million individuals. The potency of Political System Termites has a bit less to do with their actual numbers, and much more with the power and freedom granted to them by the very same victims they feed and extract upon. After all, PSTs are in charge of making the laws and rules governing their own existence and survival.</p>
<p>A typical insect termite colony contains nymph workers, soldiers, and reproductive individuals of both genders, sometimes containing several egg-laying queens. A typical Political System Termite colony may include a Speaker of the PST Colony, Chairmen and Chairwomen of sub-colonies, congressional larva (aka aides), and extended networking PSTs in media and PR colonies.</p>
<p>The most significant difference between insect termites and Political System Termites has to do with their ecology. While the former are important in nutrient recycling, habitat creation, soil formation and quality, the later is not known for any positive contribution to the human eco system, at least not in the last few decades. The only known habitats for Political System Termites are those marked by social deceases such as bribery, greed, prostitution, treason …</p></blockquote>
<p>This should be enough for a preliminary albeit simplified scientific definition and general description of Political System Termites. I will leave further and more expanded descriptions and literature to sociologists and political scientists in academia, where time always seem to be abundant to formulate definitions and answers into long winded gobbledygook no one ever seems to understand, let alone critique.</p>
<p>Instead, I will provide you with a short portrait of a known Political System Termite which acted as the Speaker of the PST Colony of Capitol Hill for nearly a decade. This example should sufficiently illustrate how these termites go about eroding and rotting the nation’s foundation, while putting in place laws meant to ensure further and easier erosion by their larva, the future PSTs.</p>
<p><em><strong>PST Dennis Hastert: A Portrait</strong></em></p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/PST-Hastert.png" alt="PST Hastert" />Dennis Hastert, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives from 1987 until 2007, represented Illinois’ 14th Congressional District, and served as the Speaker of the House from 1999 to 2007.</p>
<p>Prior to his two-decade long career as a congressman, Hastert was a high school teacher in Chicago with a modest family income. Yet, somehow, he managed to become a multi-millionaire while in Congress: his financial net worth went from less than $270,000 in 1986 to an estimated $4 million to $17 million. No, this was not due to a rich wife or a sudden inheritance, nor was it due to winning a lottery. This fortune came about solely as a result of his activities as a Political System Termite. We will have more on this further down the article.</p>
<p>This PST, while hard at work with his comrade termites eroding and rotting the legislative foundation, while filling up his personal pockets with hard-earned taxpayers money and building a fortune, was involved in almost every major scandal involving the Capitol Hill PST Colony during the last decade: From the Jack Abramoff Scandal to the Mark Foley Disaster, from being pocketed by foreign government(s) to making millions in congressionally earmarked land deals.</p>
<p>Well, this PST may have had retired in 2007, but he is still sucking up taxpayers money, and not a meager amount. Let’s look at the <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30846.html">latest</a> on this PST and on our rotten system with real rotten laws drafted by even more rotten lawmakers to benefit the most rotten ones.<span id="more-1261"></span></p>
<p>Last Monday Politico ran an <a href="http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30846.html">exposé</a> on Hastert, who’s been collecting and spending more than <span style="text-decoration: underline;">$40,000</span> of U.S. Taxpayers’ money per month, around half a million dollars of public money per year, while working for lobbyists and doing the usual dirty lobby work for foreign governments as a registered FOREIGN AGENT. That’s right. If you are not nauseated, disgusted, and outraged, then you haven’t really registered the significance of this ludicrous and appalling exposé. Let me quote directly from the article:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>U.S. taxpayers are spending more than $40,000 per month on office space, staff, cell phones and a leased SUV for former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, even as he works as a lobbyist for private corporations and foreign governments. </em></p></blockquote>
<p>Now, this is pretty rotten on its own, but here is why I characterized our lobby-serving anti-public political system rotten, and those crafting and drafting the laws serving this system and themselves, as PSTs:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>The payments are perfectly legal under a federal law that provides five years of benefits for former speakers — but only if Hastert never makes use of his government-funded perks in the course of his lobbying work. Ethics experts say that sort of separation is hard to maintain. </em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Hastert “has to be meticulous in his schedule to make sure there is no bleed from his publicly subsidized office into his private practice,” said Kenneth Gross, a former Federal Election Commission general counsel and congressional ethics authority. Steve Ellis, vice president of the watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense, called the arrangement “really concerning.” </em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>“It is specifically prohibited — federal dollars can’t be spent on lobbying operations,” Ellis said. “We are paying for his staff [and] for a car, and we need to be very sure that he isn’t spending a dime of that money on lobbying operations. “That all needs to be above board, in the clear and transparent. And it’s not.” </em></p></blockquote>
<p>So, what does Denny Boy have to say about all this:</p>
<blockquote><p><em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Hastert declined to discuss the situation with POLITICO. </span></em></p></blockquote>
<p>You must give the man credit; at least he’s been very consistent in never providing any answer, any comments, even any denial in every case &#8211; on every scandal, on every corruption case, and in regards to all never-investigated criminal deeds. This man’s record in this regard is so very long and his file of black deeds so very thick, so where do I begin and how much should I include?</p>
<p><em><strong>Head Deep in Foreign Lobby Operations While in Office</strong></em></p>
<p>I guess it is appropriate to start with a part of Hastert’s shady past (and obviously present) exposed by myself and by several other colleagues’ disclosures in the Vanity Fair <a href="http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article9774.htm">article</a> in September 2005:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>It may be more than another embarrassing security scandal. One counter-intelligence official familiar with Edmonds’s case has told Vanity Fair that the F.B.I. opened an investigation into covert activities by Turkish nationals in the late 1990’s. That inquiry found evidence, mainly via wiretaps, of attempts to corrupt senior American politicians in at least two major cities—Washington and Chicago. Toward the end of 2001, Edmonds was asked to translate some of the thousands of calls that had been recorded by this operation, some dating back to 1997. </em></p></blockquote>
<p><strong>…</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><em>Sources familiar with this testimony say that, in addition to her allegations about the Dickersons, she reported hearing Turkish wiretap targets boast that they had a covert relationship with a very senior politician indeed—Dennis Hastert, Republican congressman from Illinois and Speaker of the House since 1999. The targets reportedly discussed giving Hastert tens of thousands of dollars in surreptitious payments in exchange for political favors and information.</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Some of the calls reportedly contained what sounded like references to large scale drug shipments and other crimes. To a person who knew nothing about their context, the details were confusing and it wasn’t always clear what might be significant. One name, however, apparently stood out – a man the Turkish callers often referred to by the nickname “Denny boy.” It was the Republican congressman from Illinois and Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert. According to some of the wiretaps, the F.B.I.’s targets had arranged for tens of thousands of dollars to be paid to Hastert’s campaign funds in small checks. Under Federal Election Commission rules, donations of less than $200 are not required to be itemized in public filings. </em></p></blockquote>
<p><strong>…</strong></p>
<p>So, what did Dennis Hastert have to say about all this? Just his usual:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Hastert’s spokesman says the congressman withdrew the genocide resolution only because of the approach from Clinton, “and to insinuate anything else just doesn’t make any sense.” He adds that Hastert has no affiliation with the A.T.C. or other groups reportedly mentioned in the wiretaps: “He does not know these organizations.” Hastert is “unaware of Turkish interests making donations,” the spokesman says, and his staff has “not seen any pattern of donors with foreign names.</em>” </p></blockquote>
<p>Approximately two years after Hastert’s denying all this &#8211; his association and business deals with shady Turkish operatives and lobbyists &#8211; he resigned and immediately <a href="http://www.reporter.am/go/article/2009-04-17-ex-speaker-hastert-hired-by-turkish-lobby">went</a> on the payroll of these same shady Turkish operatives and lobbyists:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Washington</em><em> &#8211; The firm of former House Speaker <strong>Dennis Hastert</strong> (R.-Ill.) will receive $35,000 a month to lobby for the Turkish government, the </em><em>Hill</em><em> newspaper reported on April 10 citing public filings made to the Department of Justice as part of the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).</em></p></blockquote>
<p><strong>…</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><em>In August 2005, </em><em>Vanity Fair</em><em> magazine published a story referring to a federal investigation that looked into payments that Turkish diplomats allegedly discussed making to then-Speaker Hastert and others in U.S. government in an effort to prevent the Genocide resolution from passing in 2000.While the speaker&#8217;s staff denied any knowledge of the matter, in December 2005 Mr. Hastert shed himself of $70,000 in &#8220;tainted&#8221; campaign contributions, directing them to an unspecified charity, the </em><em>Village Voice</em><em> reported at the time.</em></p></blockquote>
<p><strong>…</strong></p>
<p>Okay, that’s enough background and highlights on Denny Boy betraying his country for cash and perks from other countries, the highly shady campaign contributions, and his nonverbal confession through actions &#8211; by becoming a foreign agent and lobbyist to those whose hands fed him throughout his years in public office. Let’s look at another scandalous incident involving this same Denny Hastert:</p>
<p><strong><em>Neck Deep in Land-Deal Corruption</em></strong></p>
<p>When Hastert, a former high school teacher, was first elected to Congress in 1986, he showed assets worth less than $270,000. By mid 2006, after his own real estate investments, Hastert’s net worth had increased to somewhere between $4 million to $17 million. Now, how did this happen? What kind of real estate investments are we talking about here? A very special kind, indeed!</p>
<p>Let’s take a look at an <a href="http://www.citizensforethics.org/node/26927">example</a> of Señor Hastert’s not so savvy but so very corrupt and unethical land deal:</p>

<blockquote><p><em>In December 2005, Hastert sold for $2.48 million a 69-acre parcel of land he purchased in 2002, taking in a $1.7 million profit. Also that month, he sold for $627,000 a one-quarter interest in an adjacent 70-acre parcel he purchased in 2004, bringing him an additional $287,000 profit.</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>These deals came four months after Hastert helped earmark $207 million for the Prairie Parkway in the Federal Transportation Bill, which President George W. Bush signed while visiting the Fox Valley in the summer of 2005.</em></p></blockquote>
<p>Here is another detailed <a href="http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/06/land_deal_gives.html">account</a> of this highly shady yet legal deal:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>According to <strong><a href="http://www.abcnews.go.com/images/WNT/Hastert_Disclosure.pdf" target="_blank">Hastert&#8217;s disclosure form</a></strong> and county property records, a 69-acre parcel was put into a trust, Little Rock Trust #225, on May 2, 2005. </em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Two months later, in July 2005, Hastert pushed the highway appropriation bill through a conference committee. On Aug. 6, 2005 President Bush appeared with Hastert at a ceremony in Illinois to celebrate the new highway&#8217;s funding. On Dec. 7, 2005 the trust sold the parcel of land to the developers. </em></p></blockquote>
<p>That’s right; just like that!</p>
<p><em><strong>Waist Deep in Jack Abramoff Scandal</strong></em></p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Abramhoff.png" alt="Abramhoff" />Hastert and his PAC took more than <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>$100,000 </strong></span>in contributions from Abramoff and his clients. In June 2003 Hastert, together with three other members of the GOP leadership, Tom DeLay, Roy Blunt, and Eric Cantor, signed and sent a <a href="http://www.buzzflash.com/analysis/06/05/Hastert_to_Norton.pdf">letter</a> to oppose Indian Casino expansion that would have cut into the profits of one of Abramoff&#8217;s clients. Interestingly, neither Hastert nor any of the signatories represented any tribal interests! Here are some more interesting <a href="http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Dennis_Hastert#Jack_Abramoff_Scandal">facts</a> on this particular case:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Seven days before writing the letter, on June 3, 2003, Hastert attended a fundraiser for his leadership PAC, Keep Our Majority, at Signatures, a restaurant owned by <a title="Jack Abramoff" href="http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Jack_Abramoff">Jack Abramoff</a>. Keep Our Majority collected &#8220;at least $21,500 for his Keep Our Majority political action committee from the lobbyist&#8217;s firm and tribal clients.&#8221; Hastert then failed for two years to report using the restaurant for fundraising, and did not reimburse for the cost as he is supposed to. In total Dennis Hastert and his PAC, Keep Our Majority, took in well over $100,000 in contributions from Abramoff and his clients.</em></p></blockquote>

<blockquote><p><em>The letter was written shortly after a fund-raiser for Hastert at a restaurant owned by Abramoff. Abramoff and his clients contributed more than $26,000 at the time.The day Abramoff was indicted, Hastert denied any unlawful connection and said he would donate to charity any campaign contribution he had received from Abramoff and his clients.</em></p></blockquote>

<p>Consistent Denny! Always deny, and then, turn around and continue your shady and illegal operations bolder and even more daring than the previous ones!</p>
<p><strong><em>Knee Deep in Mark Foley Disaster </em></strong></p>
<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Foley.png" alt="Foley" />During the early part of the Foley Scandal Hastert denied knowing about Foley&#8217;s Page problems, but later he was contradicted by several Republican members who said they’d briefed him on this matter directly. Hastert later changed his story and claimed he may have been told but did not remember the conversations. Good ole consistent Denny! In fact, the media and members of Congress called for his resignation as Speaker of the House. The actions of Hastert&#8217;s office were also the target of an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.</p>
<p>Not only was he involved in the scandal itself, but during his involvement Hastert used his campaign funds to pay for legal fees associated with the Foley Scandal. Here are a few excerpts from a MSM <a href="http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/01/hastert_the_untold_story.html">exposé</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>According to FEC documents, Hastert last January initially failed to disclose that legal fees had wiped out the final bit of cash he had in his campaign account. The Illinois Republican and former high school wrestling coach filed an amended finance report in February showing that his &#8217;06 campaign had racked up $147,000 in legal expenses in connection with the Foley investigation. In order to avoid substantial fines (and further debt), Hastert quietly agreed last summer to shut down his campaign and pay a $1,000 penalty, the FEC documents show. When he publicly announced on August 17 that he <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/14/AR2007081401479.html">wouldn&#8217;t be seeking re-election</a>, Hastert didn&#8217;t mention his campaign&#8217;s legal debt from the Foley scandal, or the settlement his lawyers were brokering with the FEC.</em></p></blockquote>

<p>It wouldn’t be difficult to fill several volumes on PST Hastert’s shady business deals, his involvements in high-profile criminal and corruption scandals, and his not very legal connections to and serving of foreign governments and entities. Most likely someone will write it; some day.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, as characteristic of all Political System Termites, Hastert continues to suck the public’s resources, and although technically outside the colony, through ever-expanding and far-reaching PST webs and networks, he is still at work: rotting and eroding the system.</p>
<p>Also very characteristically, this PST’s larva, despite their widely known and acknowledged intellectual and reputational challenges, have been supported and courted into becoming PSTs within the same colony and its network. The oldest one, Joshua, became a lobbyist for Podesta-Mattoon with hot-shot clients such as Lockheed Martin, and all this while his dad served as the Speaker of the PST Colony. Another one, Ethan, who was arrested and cited in 2001 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations, who also happened to work for Dick Cheney while his dad headed the PST colony on Capitol Hill, is now running for his father’s old seat, set to prove himself a PST worthy and qualified for the Capitol Hill Colony.</p>
<p>As you can see Political System Termites are far more potent and destructive than insect ones. Looking at them, examining the species, as we briefly did with the one sample-Dennis Hastert, makes us ponder the validity and the real intent of the laws we are accustomed to abiding by. These legislations/laws are being formulated and drafted by our system’s termites. So who are these laws meant to serve? Who are they to benefit? One might think of the Patriot Act, funding for war(s), earmarks for ‘national security’…</p>
<p>And finally, all of you, at least those of you who live here in the States, are familiar with spotting and getting rid of insect termites: have your house inspected, use exterminators and treat your home if any are present. In a way, it is easier with some of these Political System Termites. All one has to do: vote them out; especially when you’ve determined their status as a PST. Then, why is it PSTs like Hastert kept getting reelected, every two years, even after all the exposures and scandals? That my friends, is the real question.</p>

<p>As you see I highlighted the ‘<em>key names &amp; key words</em>.’ Again, many of my readers already know the significance of these key words/names. One significant fact that should be obvious to all:</p>
<p>When it comes to ‘foreign lobbies’ and the ‘known bad guys,’ not much seems to have changed under President Obama. You have the same old known traitors and in many ways shady guys like <a href="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2009/11/11/armitage-part-i-the-early-years-the-golden-triangle/">Richard Armitage</a> and <a href="http://amconmag.com/article/2009/nov/01/00006/">Marc Grossman</a> who are chosen as Key Facilitators paving the way to the White House and Foreign Policy Making Machine. Oh, and please don’t forget Chicago…</p>
<p><em><strong>Obama Administration Wants your Attention Diverted</strong></em></p>
<p>The mainstream media and Democratic Party HQ connected websites seem to be busy trying to divert attention from the President’s determined assault on our civil liberties via renewing and extending the Patriot Act. Here are a few excerpts from a well-written and objective <a href="http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/11/23-6">article</a> by William Fisher:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>With the health care debate preoccupying the mainstream media, it has gone virtually unreported that the Barack Obama administration is quietly supporting renewal of provisions of the George W. Bush-era USA Patriot Act that civil libertarians say infringe on basic freedoms. And it is reportedly doing so over the objections of some prominent Democrats.</em></p>
<p><em>When a panicky Congress passed the act 45 days after the terrorist attacks of Sep. 11, 2001, three contentious parts of the law were scheduled to expire at the end of next month, and opponents of these sections have been pushing Congress to substitute new provisions with substantially strengthened civil liberties protections. But with the apparent approval of the Obama White House and a number of Republicans – and over the objections of liberal Senate Democrats including Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Dick Durbin of Illinois – the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to extend the three provisions with only minor changes.</em></p></blockquote>

<p>Fisher’s <a href="http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/11/23-6">article</a> goes on to provide more details related to the key provisions and responses from the civil liberties groups:</p>
<blockquote><p><em>Pitts told IPS, &#8220;President Obama&#8217;s flip-flop on Patriot Act issues does as much damage as did his flip-flop on the FISA Amendments Act and telecom immunity last year. But it&#8217;s imperative that we fight, while we still can, to comprehensively reinsert requirements for fact-based, individualised suspicion, checks and balances, and meaningful judicial review prior to government intrusions.&#8221;</p>
<p>In a report on the Patriot Act, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said, &#8220;More than seven years after its implementation there is little evidence that the Patriot Act has been effective in making America more secure from terrorists. However, there are many unfortunate examples that the government abused these authorities in ways that both violate the rights of innocent people and squander precious security resources.&#8221;</em></p></blockquote>
<p>I strongly encourage you to read the entire article and take the time to write to your representatives. Most likely writing won’t do much good (sorry for sounding cynical, but after nearly a decade of dealing with Congress I dare say I’m being realistic), but still, it is better than not knowing and doing nothing which is exactly what the mainstream media and the partisan blog sites want you to do. Dare their operations geared to make you look the other way.</p>

<p><img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Armitage.png" alt="Armitage" />Now it is official. Former U.S. Secretary of State Richard Armitage is on his way to take over the Chairmanship of the American Turkish Council from Brent Scowcroft.</p>
<p>Richard Perle and Douglas Feith were the first Neocon operatives to <em>officially</em> become lobbyists for Turkish ‘<em>special</em>’ interests in the US in 1989. They set up their lobby firm, <a href="http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=International_Advisors%2C_Inc.">International Advisors, Inc.</a> (IAI) and formally registered as foreign agents for the government of Turkey, while still connected to the Pentagon. Since 1989 other <em>major-league </em>politicians and bureaucrats have joined the list, including Former Speaker of the House, <a href="http://www.reporter.am/go/article/2009-04-17-ex-speaker-hastert-hired-by-turkish-lobby">Dennis Hastert</a>, and Deputy Secretary of State, Marc Grossman.<br />

<p>Here are a few excerpts from the brief <a href="http://www.worldbulletin.net/news_detail.php?id=49227">article</a> on this official announcement, which interestingly took place on October 30, over a week ago, but was completely censored, blacked out, by the media.</p>

<blockquote><p><em>ATC Board of Directors announced with a statement Thursday that it elected Ambassador Armitage to succeed Scowcroft &#8211;who served for 9 years as chairman&#8211; on January 1, 2010.</em></p>

The American-Turkish Council thanked General Scowcroft for his personal commitment to a strong U.S.-Turkey relationship and particularly for his highly successful leadership of the ATC.</em></p>
<p><em><br />
ATC said it was looking forward to working with Armitage to strengthen the business, defense, trade and investment, foreign policy and cultural relations between the United States and Turkey.</em></p>
<p><em><br />
Scowcroft and Ambassador Armitage will travel to Turkey November 16-20 for senior-level discussions with Turkey&#8217;s government, military and business leadership.</em></p></blockquote>
