The Real motives behind a Rapacious Imperial Power’s Real Objectives
By William Bowles
Frankly, it’s not easy defending the Ba’ath regime in Syria, after all not so long ago the Communist Party in Syria and other left groups were suppressed by the ruling Ba’ath Party, its members thrown in jail and even killed[1]. But I make no apology for defending the Assad regime’s right to independence and to resist foreign subversion and an attempted takeover by the Empire under the guise of the ‘Responsibility to Protect’.
The doctrine of the ‘Responsibility to Protect’ [sic], is a stroke of PR genius that originated as the brainchild of a British colonial settler descendent in Australia, Gareth Evans, and a former Labour Party minister. The history of the Responsibility to Protect doctrine is, according to its ‘official’ website ‘The Responsibility to Protect’ (formerly known as the Right to Intervene, more on this below) as follows: Read more
‘Human Rights’ for the West is a Malleable Notion!
By William Bowles
The battle that has been raging in the southern Syrian city of Homs and that now seems to have been resolved with a ‘win’ for the government, though it would seem at a terrible cost in lives, is now the subject of a follow-up by the MSM; how to care for the survivors, and, what exactly went on in Homs? This is how the BBC reported it:
“Red Cross convoy is refused permission to deliver supplies to the Baba Amr district of Homs, which has been subjected to a month-long bombardment by Syrian forces.” — Red Cross Convoy stopped on Homs, BBC News, 2 March 2012[1]
Why has the BBC described the battle between two forces, both heavily armed as “a month-long bombardment by Syrian forces” when the reality on the ground is obviously nothing like the Beeb’s simplistic, government-inspired newsspeak? The statement is not a lie but it’s not the truth either.
“Access to the area has been closed by the authorities for security considerations. The Red Cross humanitarian convoy suspended the evacuation of the wounded from the city on February 26th, when it failed to obtain security guarantees from the warring factions.” (my emph. WB) Voice of Russia 3 March 2012
One witness to events in Homs had this to say: Read more
9/11 Questions Bubble Up in the Media
On Friday February 24, Boiling Frogs posted an article titled “Media Sleepwalks, While History is in the Making.” Three articles had come out the week before, one in the London Daily Telegraph and two in the Florida-based Broward Bulldog, raising important new questions about the crimes of September 11, 2001 and the quality of the government’s investigation. In particular, these articles discussed new information and questions coming from former Senator Robert Graham, questions relating to secret documents that Graham described as running at odds with past government assertions in the 9/11 investigation. These three articles also raised new questions about the role of the government of Saudi Arabia.
The Feb 24 Boiling Frogs post discussed those three articles, and noted that there hadn’t been a single article in the mainstream media on the issues they raised, even though a week had gone by. The post then asked if a valid prediction market could be established for the date when the media would wake up. Read more
The Phenomenon of the ‘Red Tops’
By William Bowles
A fellow writer tells me that she feels overwhelmed by events and I feel the same way. An awful sense of déjà vu that we have as much chance of stopping the march to total war as they had in the 1930s. Except that this time it will not be us citizens of Empire who are on the receiving end of Western industrial-scale murder and pillage. The world’s first colonial world war, with the haves pitted against the have-nots. As I have remarked before, without a non-capitalist alternative to not only reign in some of the ‘excesses’ of capitalism but also curtail its relentless expansion, the world is essentially defenseless.
That for as long as we remain disconnected from events beyond the shopping mall or the small screen, the Empire will act with impunity, knowing full well that the only opposition will be from those on the receiving end, those unfortunate enough to get some Western ‘humanitarian aid’.
It is no accident that at the heart of the propaganda war, but buried away in the small print, the real objective of the ‘right 2 protect’, the 21st century’s replacement for being on a ‘civilizing mission’, is the spread of the ‘free market’. This is not merely an economic imperative but also ideologically driven, perhaps best illustrated by the grande dame of neoliberalism, Maggie Thatcher’s “there’s no such thing as society”.
Hopefully, capitalist Russia and China as well as the rest of the BRIC members have at long last realized that it’s not really about the West’s hatred of socialism, handy though this is in the propaganda war, but about their economic and political independence, free from the machinations of global capitalism. This is what Syria is all about. Read more
Re-Burying the Recently Unearthed 9/11 Reports
In the last week, three important new articles have added to our understanding and raised new questions about the crimes of September 11, 2001. As of today, Friday morning, there is nary a peep about their contents in the U.S.mainstream media. The lack of apparent media attention may be in keeping with character, and predictable, but sad nonetheless. When are they going to wake up? Can we make a valid prediction market for that date?
Last Saturday, the London-based Daily Telegraph published an article by Anthony Summers, Neil Tweedie and Dan Christensen titled “London-based oil executive linked to 9/11 hijackers.” The same day, the independent Florida-based Broward Bulldog published a related article by Christensen and Summers, titled “FBI informant says Sarasota Saudi praised bin Laden; knew Broward County Qaeda suspect.” And then on the next Monday morning, the Broward Bulldog put out another article by Summers and Christensen, titled “Graham: FBI’s public statements are in conflict with still secret records of Sarasota 9/11 probe.”
The “Graham” in the third title is Senator Robert Graham of Florida. Graham served in the U.S. Senate for 18 years, where his tenure included ten years as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. That committee led the Senate’s contribution to the Congressional Joint Inquiry into the 9/11 attacks, published in late 2002, a report whose public contents were heavily redacted.
Summing up, some good journalists have unearthed new leads on one of the worst crimes in history, and a leading Senator is raising new questions about the integrity of the government’s investigation. But the U.S.media, outside of the dogged, independent Broward Bulldog, doesn’t see fit to report on it. Read more
New Alleged Hezbollah-Iran Joint Terror Operations in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan claims it has ‘again’ busted another Iranian terror cell, but is refusing to provide any evidence or details. According to the report by the country’s state-run AZTV, on February 21 a terrorist cell operated by Hezbollah and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had been discovered and dismantled. Allegedly the busted group, with guns and explosives, were planning attacks on ‘unspecified’ foreign nationals.
Despite reporters’ attempts the Azeri government refrained from providing any additional information:
Speaking to EurasiaNet.org, a spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security refused either to confirm or to deny the station’s report. Strangely, pro-government and state-run news sites have proven similarly skittish about delving into the AzTV report; no news about the arrests could be found on any of these websites on the morning of February 22.
…
Strangely enough, to back up the story AZTV aired footage of terrorist arrests from an incident that occurred in 2008! This new development appears to follow the very same pattern as Azerbaijan’s claim on the ‘alleged’ assassination plot against Israeli officials in Azerbaijan by an Iran-Sponsored terrorist group last month. Paul Craig Roberts on Silencing the Critics
I just finished reading Paul Craig Roberts’ latest commentary on silencing the critics. It is a must read- maybe not for the already-vigilant minority who’ve been saying and writing about this for years, but for those still in denial. Here are a few fiery excerpts telling the truth as it is:
The idea that the US is a democracy when it most definitely does not have a free watchdog press is laughable. But the media is not laughing. It is lying. Just like the government, every time the US mainstream media opens its mouth or writes one word, it is lying. Indeed, its corporate masters pay its employees to tell lies. That is their job. Tell the truth, and you are history like Buchanan and Napolitano and Helen Thomas.

Whose interests are being served by Washington’s endless and multi-trillion dollar wars? Certainly not the interests of the 50 million Americans with no access to health care, nor by the 1,500,000 American children who are homeless, living in cars, rundown motel rooms, tent cities, and the storm sewers under Las Vegas, while huge amounts of public funds are used to bail out banks and squandered in wars of hegemony. … And, that’s not all that doesn’t make sense
This week, the organizers of a UNESCO conference, “The Media World after WikiLeaks and News of the World,” refused to let a WikiLeaks representative participate as a speaker. In so doing, they deprived the world of a full and balanced discussion of issues critical to protecting human rights. Neither UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) nor the conference organizer, the USA-based World Press Freedom Committee, are apologizing, and traditional news media (with one exception) looked the other way.
As the central player in information-sharing partnerships that changed journalism, WikiLeaks unquestionably has important insights to share on conference topics such as the relationship between new and traditional journalism. But, only half of that partnership, WikiLeaks points out, was invited to speak at the UNESCO conference—and a bias was evident even in the questions selected for debate. Read more
The Key US Ally in Operation “Disintegrate Iran” Intentionally Put in US Media’s Blind-Spot
With every passing day since the beginning of US operations in preparing the ground for invading its ultimate prize, Iran, Azerbaijan’s status as the key accessory has been rising. Of course, the mainstream media has intentionally and very conveniently placed Azerbaijan in the blind spot of its rearview mirror in accordance with their long-established modus operandi as concoctors of Washington-created smoke and mirrors.
Last month Boiling Frogs Post broke the newly brewing story-line in the war propaganda against Iran involving an alleged Iranian terror plot in Azerbaijan, and had a follow up on the emerging ‘alleged’ details in the ‘alleged’ plot claiming Israeli diplomats and religious figures were the intended targets of the ‘alleged’ Iranian assassination plot. We also provided analysis on the mainstream media spin on these developments here, and emphasized the timing and way-too-familiar false flag quality of the ‘alleged’ plot. Read more
