Soothing the Beast tonight is Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, each who have made beautiful music in their own right. Put them together as a husband/wife team and the result is some very sweet tunes with excellent vocals by Tedeschi and some serious guitar by Trucks. The song is Midnight in Harlem written by vocalist Mike Matteson and performed by Susan and Derek at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in Toyota Park, Bridgeview, IL on June 26, 2010.

I saw Hugh Masekela many many years ago at a small jazz club and was blown away by his music and his sound. His trumpet playing is incredible and I’ve been a fan of his for forty years. I will be seeing him again this February in Worcester, MA and can’t wait.

The emotion Hugh brings to this piece is absolutely astounding. This performance will knock your sox off. This week’s pick for Soothing the Beast is Coal Train by Hugh Masekela and his band…Enjoy!…PJ

Welcome to Soothing the Beast. All week we work, stay involved, fight and just try to survive and come to grips with everything in this world around us. We need a break and that’s what this segment is all about. At Boiling Frogs Post when Saturday night rolls around it’s time for “Soothing the Beast” with some music. So every Saturday night (make that on a lot of Saturday nights) we’re going to take a break and listen/watch a music video. Some nights our pick for the night will be low key and other times raucous or somewhere in between. No matter where it falls, it’ll be an escape that we all really need. So check it out, feel free to comment and most of all take a deep breath and enjoy.

This week’s music pick is all about keyboard, vocals, guitars and drums. This song has a great beat and I love her voice. Give it up for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals performing “Treat Me Right” from their album Nothing But The Water … PJ

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Grace and her band, check out Grace Potter at Wikipedia.

Welcome to Soothing the Beast. All week we work, stay involved, fight and just try to survive and come to grips with everything in this world around us. So check it out, feel free to comment and most of all take a deep breath and enjoy.

This week’s selection is the incredible Burning Spear live. I like Reggae but am not a rabid fan. My buddy turned me on to Burning Spear and I was enthralled with their incredible sounds. This selection has some amazing drums, excellent vocals, really sweet horns and a really cool conch shell solo. PJ

We Are Still Trying. How About You?

<img border="0" style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://thermometer.fund-raising-ideas-center.com/thermometer.php?currency=none&goal=500&current=368&color=red&size=large" alt="Fundraising Thermometer">Our extended subscription drive is going to end at the day tomorrow, Sunday, October 16. We needed 500 new subscribers for this quarter, and so far we have not made it. We need 132 additional subscribers to meet our objective, and to carry us through this year while keeping all our publications, including our exclusive video reports with James Corbett and our weekly podcast show with Peter B. Collins, open to all. As we have said repeatedly our aim is to produce top notch articles, analyses, political cartoons, podcast interview series and original investigative video reports, and be able to offer all these unmatched materials to everyone. Some may say ‘well, we don’t always get all we want.’ I say, ‘well, at least we give it a try; give it our best.’

I believe we have given it a try and our best. We will not quit trying. We will not stop. However, if we don’t meet our goal in the next 48 hours we will have to settle for less, and that ‘less’ means limiting the viewership of our podcast series and video reports. Anyone who has a problem with that should check our appeal to our readers-viewers-listeners during the last 6 weeks. It is on record. We have tried, and we are still trying. I also invite anyone to point to a website with this level of independent and quality information, one-of-a-kind video reports and in depth podcast interviews which operates without a single corporate ad, without a dime from the corporate-foundations, and without any attachment to agenda-driven political parties. You will not find one. Not a single one. Because it doesn’t exist, it cannot exist without the will, support, and contributions from ‘the people.’ And that’s why no one really gives it a try. We do. We are. How about you?

Less than 48 hours to go, and we ‘only’ need 132 additional subscribers. Please do your share, and support a ‘true alternative’ with your subscription. Thank you.

As always I want to thank all our subscribers who believe in us; have faith in what we are doing, and have shown their support in action. We want to thank every single one of you who recognize, appreciate and support a true alternative without corporate or foundation ties.

A little over two years ago I started my blog thinking of it as a channel to publish my thoughts, analyses of and reactions to the sorry state of our nation: the absurdities of our declared and undeclared- covert and overt wars, waged in our name, under the guise of ‘security’ and ‘terror;’ the butchering of our liberties and once-upon-a-time previously recognized Constitutional rights under the pretense of ‘national security’ and ‘war on terror;’ the veil of secrecy and classification draping over almost all our government actions to cover up the truth and erase all traces of ‘reason’ and any chance for ‘accountability.’ Most importantly, I wanted this channel to counter the media’s deceptions, distortions, and their role in furthering these assaults-domestically and internationally.

A little over two years ago I started that little blog with very humble expectations: writing an article or two per month, and doing a little bit of my share in a fight in need of millions.

In a little over two years that little blog grew. It became a home not only for my few articles, but other like-minded and passionate fighters who shared the urgency of ‘we the people’, trying to do something about the sorry state of our nation, and by default many other nations. We became partners; we became a team: Peter B. Collins, one of the greatest radio talk hosts in this country, but wait, one of the very few who has always remained independent, nonpartisan and ‘true;’ Paul Jamiol, who produces and expresses our causes in illustrations and drawings in many ways unmatched by thousands of words; James Corbett, by far the most amazing reporter and producer I’ve ever known in the field of investigative video reporting; and of course contributing authors and analysts such as expert authors Elizabeth Gould-Paul Fitzgerald, investigative reporter Joe Lauria, and analysts Bill Bergman and Linda Lewis.

We have come a long way. Today with this unmatched team and with more than 100,000 of you visiting our home of the irate minority we are becoming a voice to reckon with. Of course, we know we have a long way to go, and need many more thousands to expand and hopefully counter the ignorance plague. For that we need ‘You.’

We are entering the final week of our BFP Subscription Drive. We need 176 new subscribers to keep this home and make it reachable to all. Please help us keep this ‘true alternative’ alive and kicking. If you have already subscribed, then help us get the word out and encourage those you know to join our irate minority and subscribe. Thank you.

Peter B. Collins and Sibel Edmonds discuss the meaning of true alternative media, the role of corporate-foundations in mainstreaming the so-called alternative news, the shameful state of mainstream media as the mouthpiece for the government steered by mega corporations, the joint pseudo alternative-mainstream media black-outs on information pertaining to 9/11, government whistleblowers, secrecy, and the falsification of the truth by tentacles of our shadow government. We go on record with examples of establishment alternatives in disguise and real cases of operatives who sabotage true alternatives like Boiling Frogs Post. We talk about Boiling Frogs Post, our partners and team members, our goals, our pledge to complete independence from the corporates and their foundations, our stand on partisanship, and more!

The mainstream media, from the Washington Post to the New Yorker, had been sitting on this story for years, and despite all their resources and in-house legal muscle had chosen to withhold this information from the American public. The popular pseudo alternative outlets have not dared to publish a word on this story, despite us taking the lead and the associated risks of exposing these mammoth government hit-men, and despite their millions of dollars from the corporate-foundations, Soros and the like. Boiling Frogs Post is that kind of an alternative.

We brought to our readers a sobering four-part series on U.S. Psychological Warfare, 9/11 & the American Narrative, written and presented to you by distinguished investigative authors Elizabeth Gould and Paul Fitzgerald. In this series we dared to delve into the real history, context and facts long censored by mainstream authors and quasi alternatives alike. By doing this, once again we managed to ruffle some feathers, and kicked our daring content up another notch or two.

We dedicated an entire month to our podcast coverage of hard-hitting facts and proven cover-ups related to 9/11, and presented to you experts and analysts who have long been outcast by the mainstream media intimidated by naked truths. We dared their ‘marginalization tactics & threats’; they lost-our listeners won.

We have been producing and showcasing our one-of-a-kind video series on topics long-considered ‘no-no’ by the establishment and their tentacles. Our partner, James Corbett, has been delving into ‘hot-potato’ cases; from Afghanistan’s White Gold-Heroin, to the CIA-News Media joint operation and partnership. With documented facts on our side we have been sawing through their thick and crusty cover made of lies. Every day, with every single additional video viewer, we are expanding the number of those in the know, and shrinking the size of their reliable majority.

They want to continue to mislead and misinform Americans on Palestine related issues and developments-we counter that with facts presented by our distinguished and well-respected experts. They want to trick the public into trusting their tentacles in order to manufacture consent-we tear apart their web, wreck their mazes, and connect the dots back to their pockets.

<img border="0" style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://thermometer.fund-raising-ideas-center.com/thermometer.php?currency=none&goal=500&current=286&color=red&size=large" alt="Fundraising Thermometer">That’s who we are. That’s what we’ve been doing. That’s exactly what we want to continue to be doing. That’s what Boiling Frogs Post is about. Do you like what you see here at Boiling Frogs Post? Do you want us to continue? Would you like to finally have a media outlet free of corporate ties, foundation strings, partisan alliances, and shady partnerships?

This time I am going to start with the bad news: we have reached the end of our three-week subscription drive, and we have not made it. We have not reached our goal of having 500 new subscribers for this quarter. We have added only 286 new subscribers. In order to continue what we need is at least 200 more of you to subscribe.

I don’t want to downplay the positive side of this. We have 286 new subscribers who have committed to supporting Boiling Frogs Post. We have 286 new subscribers who believe in us; have faith in what we are doing, and have shown their support in action. We want to thank every single one of them.

Now, what are we going to do? We were hoping to reach our 500 new subscribers objective and offer every single post, podcast, and video report to everyone. But we didn’t make it. That leaves us with two options:

1- Starting this Monday, October 3, provide our podcast interviews and videos only to Boiling Frogs Post Subscribers.

2- Extend our subscription drive for another two weeks, and try one more time to reach our goal of 500 new subscribers.

As I have said repeatedly, we want to continue this, expand this website, yet make sure we reach as many people as possible, and offer everything to everyone, with all our materials/information/articles available to all. How is it possible to consolidate both objectives? How can we sustain this website’s operations, and remain open and available to all? Most importantly, how do we accomplish all this without a single penny from corporate ads, and without a single string attaching us to those charlatan corporate-foundations?

We all know the answer. There is only one way: your contribution, commitment and support by subscribing to Boiling Frogs Post. There is NO other way. We have to do this every quarter, and we have to expand our subscription base. For this quarter we needed 500 new subscribers. We need 200 additional subscribers to meet that objective. Per your requests and our team members’ input we are going to extend this quarter’s subscription drive by two weeks until Sunday, October 16. We have been doing our share. We want to continue to do so. Please do your share and give this real alternative a chance. Please support us by subscribing to Boiling Frogs Post.

Boiling Frogs Subscription Countdown: Week 3

<img border="0" style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://thermometer.fund-raising-ideas-center.com/thermometer.php?currency=none&goal=500&current=224&color=red&size=large" alt="Fundraising Thermometer"> We are beginning our third week in our countdown for 500 new subscribers this quarter to keep Boiling Frogs Post alive. The good news: We have added 224 new subscribers who now have committed to supporting us not only in words but in action. The bad news: we are not even halfway there.

You see, there are some things in life that are either ‘this’ way or ‘that’ way. There are certain expectations in life that can only be fulfilled with ‘one’ course of action or ‘another.’ Certain situations in life don’t allow having it ‘both ways.’ And we believe this is one of those situations.

We can’t say, on one hand, that we are disgusted, sick and tired of corporate media supported by the corporate circle and establishment money, and then not commit to supporting the very few without those corporate strings. We can’t expect to have independent information outlets free of corporate foundations ruled by Soroses-Rockefeller and Carnegies, on one hand, and then not contribute to those who are giving us exactly what we want without those shady foundation attachments.

This is Boiling Frogs Post, an independent website operating without any agenda-driven corporate foundation backing, without a single dime of corporate advertisements, and without any political party affiliation. We are struggling to make this independent information outlet possible while juggling work and family responsibilities. You the friends, readers and supporters of this forum for the irate minority are the sole determinant of our survival, continuation and further expansion. Without your contribution this true alternative will not exist. Without your direct support our options will be boiled down to the corporate mainstream media and corporate foundation pseudo alternatives.

It is time for the reality check of our expectations of independent media and information outlets. It is ‘one’ way or ‘another.’ It is either free to all but paid for and controlled by the corporate establishment, or, it is supported and sustained by us the people for us the people. The choice is ours. The decision is yours. Are you willing to support and sponsor our community? Will you help us continue and expand?

Here is how you can support us: Sign up for the Boiling Frogs Post recurring monthly or annual Subscription program to help us continue and expand this website. We need at least 276 more subscribers this quarter to make it.

BFP Subscription

Thank you for your support,

When it comes to Crooked Puppets We Take No Prisoners

By Sibel Edmonds

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/BFP_Sibel_Edmonds.png" alt="Sibel" />For the past two years Boiling Frogs Post has been the proud home of the irate minority. When I started this website, even before completing the site’s setup, I had already picked the quote which this site’s principle was going to be based upon. In fact, this particular quote was one of the major catalysts in making the decision to launch Boiling Frogs Post:

It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.” – Samuel Adams

As you all know, I have been referring to our core group and supporters as our vigilant irate minority friends. The majority has been trying very hard, and most of the time successfully, to paint us, our vigilant minority group, as conspiracy theorists, fringe, loonies or worse. Two years ago I wrote about the story of the poisoned well and here are a few excerpts on the crazy majority and the vigilant minority who refrain from drinking from the poisoned well:

Today in our nation, with the help of the mainstream media and the pseudo alternative-media alike, anyone who dares NOT to drink from the well poisoned by the establishment corruption, greed, abuses and lies, tainted foreign policy agenda, and cover-ups, is destined to find himself stuffed into the same bucket of crazies, loonies, the mad and insane.

Those driven by pure, agenda-free, and nonpartisan civil liberties motives are coined as die-hard unrealistic idealists.

Those in government who dare to come forward, speak up, and tell the truth are labeled as disgruntled whistleblowers.

Those groups who fight for accountability and demand justice are dismissed as extremists.

Those activists who dare to ask for ‘real’ investigations in matters such as 9/11 are grouped and stuffed in a bucket as insane conspiracy theorists.

Those real investigative journalists and reporters who have defied the ‘dictation,’ refusing to become stenographers, have found themselves jobless and without paid outlets to publish.

Two years later here we are still, the vigilant irate minority. And that’s not all. There is another common stand and bond that holds us together. We also happen to be a politically homeless bunch. What do I mean by that? Well, just take a look at what we’ve been saying and doing for the last two years. We fought and opposed the previous regime under Bush. We’ve been countering, exposing and fighting the current regime under Obama; since day one of his presidency. We are looking at the actors on the warm-up stage for the upcoming elections, and shaking our heads in disgust.

We all know too well about the establishment presenting their puppets in two different costumes and under two different labels: Democrats & Republicans. We realize the mockery of democracy and that having a choice is about the establishment giving the people their two choices-the two sides of the same coin, and saying ‘here you go; pick from the two and we get ours either way!’ That’s what I mean by the nonpartisan minority here; a politically homeless group.

We are aware of the pseudo terrorism script being sold to our nation as the pretext for our establishment’s objective of perpetual wars. We do see through the fables, fantasies and lies marketed to our nation’s crazy majority by the mainstream and pseudo alternative media.

<img border="0" style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://thermometer.fund-raising-ideas-center.com/thermometer.php?currency=none&goal=500&current=136&color=red&size=medium" alt="Fundraising Thermometer">Just take a look at the coverage provided to you by Boiling Frogs Post in the past two years. Look at the list of 54 guests and issues we have presented to you in our Boiling Frogs Podcast Interview Series. While you are at it go over the hard-hitting original political ‘toons presented to you by our award-winning cartoonist Paul Jamiol here at Boiling Frogs Post for the past two years.

Boiling Frogs Post has been the home of the vigilant irate minority. It has been the home for politically homeless people like you and me who refuse to drink from the poisoned well. This home is independent. This home is nonpartisan. We do not receive a single penny from corporate-foundation shills or corporate advertisement trap setters. This home relies only on the support provided by a like-minded irate minority like you.

We are starting our Week 2 Subscription Drive Countdown. As you can see we still have a long way to go but only 2 more weeks in which to do it. In order to continue this website and offer our content to everyone out there we need subscribers. We need 500 new subscribers for this quarter to make this happen. Please do your share and help us continue by subscribing to Boiling Frogs Post today. Thank you.

The Only Way to Remain Independent & Uncompromised

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/914_boycott.png" alt="boycott" />Last week I got an e-mail from a reporter from one of the top three culprit-corporate mainstream media players. In his e-mail, the ‘reporter’ provided a link to a recent article on FBI Translator-Whistleblower Liebowitz. He politely asked me to cover it at Boiling Frogs Post and disseminate, ‘since this is a case directly related to your case, your movement and website, Ms. Edmonds.’ I politely responded,

‘I am aware of the case and I will include it in my nightly news roundup this evening. However, first I have to go and find a REPUTABLE news source that has provided coverage on this.’

Very quickly, another e-mail followed, asking me,

‘What are you trying to say? That XYZ is not reputable?! Don’t be ridiculous. It’s outrageous. What is this…some sort of a boycott?!’

I thought about this for a few minutes, then, went and checked my nightly news posts and the sources for the last ten weeks, five nights a week. Guess what? I’ve been boycotting these jerks! How about that?! I guess it had not occurred to me in those terms until last week with that reporter’s e-mail. And to make it official, I am going to announce it with pride:

Boiling Frogs Post does not provide coverage or generate hits for the highly dependent and influenced, unreliable and already proven illegitimate mainstream media players. You may consider this an official boycott.

Does this mean it takes me much longer and costs me more time and energy to research and find far more reputable alternative sources for noteworthy news and editorials every night? You bet. Let me give you an example. For that Liebowitz & Israel Espionage story I found far more accurate and comprehensive coverage. And that’s what I published for you that same day. Not only that, in addition to the newsworthy information I also helped show how ‘news & info’ gets to be twisted, sanitized and then delivered by the same top culprits in the MSM. Here is my alternative to the garbage printed by the dependent NY Times:

The New York Times Twisted the Facts in FBI Wiretap of Israel

This is what we mean by providing alternative and completely independent news, editorials, interviews and video at Boiling Frogs Post. To continue this and to be successful at it we must remain ‘Independent.’ This means: not a penny from the corporate media. Not a cent from corporate foundations from Soros to Rockefellers to Carnegie. It also means ‘zero’ partisanship and no party alliances. Then, how do we make this happen??!!

We solely depend on you to exist, continue, move forward, and expand. So please do your share and support us with your subscription. Let us show that it is ‘possible.’ Thank you.

BFP Subscription Countdown Day 2

We say ‘we don’t want corporate media.’ We know that Corporate-Foundation sponsored quasi alternative information sites are equally suspect and under the influence. We admit to the destructive nature of partisan groupings when it comes to news and analyses forums. We want a website that is completely free of corporate money and advertisements, totally detached from agenda-driven foundational sponsorship, and absolutely nonpartisan.

Well, we got it, and here we are: The Boiling Frogs Post. We solely depend on you to exist, continue, move forward, and expand. Please do your share and support us with your subscription. Let us show that it is ‘possible.’

BFP Subscription Countdown: We need 500 New Subscribers Now!

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/BFP_Sibel_Edmonds.png" alt="SE" />Dear BFP Irate Minority Members & Supporters,

Last month I provided you with a heads up on coming changes, improvements and expansions to the Boiling Frogs Post. We are now ready to begin the third phase of this independent and nonpartisan website for the members of our irate minority community. A little more than two years ago I started this site as a simple blog. To my surprise (pleasant surprise, that is), very quickly, my simple little ‘blog spot’ began to gain the attention of like-minded readers and supporters. Together we raised this ‘blog spot’ to more of a ‘site.’ And we kept growing. I then began forming partnerships with like-minded friends: Those free of corporate attachments, foundation strings, and partisan blinders:

Peter B Collins and I have been bringing you our one of its kind podcast interview series; with no commercials, and no corporate or foundation sponsorship.

Paul Jamiol has been presenting to you hard-hitting and critical thought provoking editorial-political cartoons.

Elizabeth Gould and Paul Fitzgerald have brought you un-matched analyses and articles on issues rarely-touched by mainstream and pseudo alternatives.

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/BFP_Nightly_News.png" alt="nightly news" />Beginning in July this year we started providing you with a nightly news and editorial roundup. Every weeknight we publish a comprehensive list of significant news articles and truly independent critical editorial pieces, selected and filtered from the best and most independent sources. You may have noticed the absence of bologna sold as news by publications such as The New York Times and Washington Post. Call it a kind of a boycott, if you like

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/BFP_Video.png" alt="BFPVideo" />Also last July I formed a new partnership with James Corbett of Corbett Report. James has already produced for us five original investigative video reports. He has been working on several additional investigative projects, and we are ready to publish these reports back-to-back starting this week

We have also brought on board other independent analysts and authors such as Bill Bergman and Linda Lewis, who will be providing you with analyses on issues that have been sinking our country.

On the not-so-exciting technical front: we have upgraded our server and hosting services – including cloud hosting services for our streaming videos, and we now have ‘real’ database management software which will be utilized to provide our members with additional and improved services. One of the first services we’ll be providing in the coming weeks is our BFP Monthly Newsletter, and another is the upcoming members’ exclusive forum.

Now comes the most important question: How do we continue and expand all these services and coverage? How can we afford to produce original and independent weekly podcast and video shows? How can we continue to bring in original work from independent experts and analysts? How do we maintain and manage this website? Most importantly, and by that I mean ‘the most’ important question: How do we do all this without receiving a single penny in corporate money, without getting any support from agenda-driven corporate foundations, while defying all partisan and status quo boundaries? How?

I’ll tell you how: through your support and contributions. As simple as that; nothing less-nothing more. This site depends exclusively on your contributions. Without your support there won’t be a Boiling Frogs Post. Without your contribution we won’t be able to bring to you podcast interviews or investigative video reports. Without your subscriptions I won’t be able to spend the time it takes to manage this great forum.

Last March, after our month-long fundraising round I presented to you our results, dilemma, and possible course of action. Now I am presenting you with the only two ways I know to maintain, continue, and expand this website:

1- In the next three weeks gather a sufficient number of monthly or annual subscribers to continue and expand this website, and still have all our content, including podcast and video reports, available to everyone and anyone. We need a minimum of 500 new subscribers per quarter to achieve this.

2- In the absence of a sufficient number of subscribers at the end of this three week period, make our podcast and video reports available only to our subscribers.

It is really hard to balance our two objectives: Produce quality podcast-video and editorial information, have it available to as many people as possible, and at the same time have enough funding to sustain the information production and maintenance of this website. That’s why we are starting this three-week subscription campaign – to see whether we can achieve both objectives. We need to have 500 new subscribers per quarter to keep the site and all its content available to all.

You, Boiling Frogs supporters, will be the sole determinant. Help us continue and expand this unique information venue by subscribing to our annual or monthly contribution program. Please Subscribe Now:

BFP Subscription Countdown: We need 500 New Subscribers Now!

What we have been doing & what we will be doing

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/730_sibel.png" alt="sibel" />It’s been a very busy month for Boiling Frogs Post. The ‘busy’ includes what you’ve been reading, watching and listening to here, and also what’s been taking place behind the scene invisible to you all. Let me start with what we have been doing before I get to where we are headed:

-We moved BFP to a new Hosting company.

-We upgraded our server package and monthly hosting services.

-We are in the middle of making our website Mobile Compatible, to enable you to get to the site on the go.

-We have purchased several software packages and Plug INS to be used for our upcoming video-audio services and Database management- operations.

It may sound pretty simple for those of you who are tech and website savvy, but let me tell you, it has been anything but smooth and easy for me. The following words come fairly close to describing the process for tech-challenged me with limited resources: frustrating, agitating, at times bewildering, and sometimes even depressing! You are looking at a woman who still doesn’t own any of the current jazzed up mobile devices. My simple cell phone was made in 2005, and my very rarely used laptop is at least 6 years old. Do you get the picture? No IPhone, no IPad or whatever else is out there the names of which I don’t even know. Okay; okay.

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/730_puzzle.png" alt="puzzle" />On the positive front here is what I have been planning and working on with my partners:

Two weeks ago I added our BFP Select Evening News & Editorials feature, and you have seen it 5 weeknights for two weeks. That too expanded a bit to include nightly select videos, nightly quote and funnies. I have to admit I love doing it. Is it time consuming? Yes, but definitely important and worth it.

We now have a partnership agreement with James Corbett to produce exclusive video reports for BFP. You have already watched 4 test videos on FBI Secret Files; Corporate Foundations; Obama Transparency Award; and the Murdoch Scandal. Again, it’s been a pleasure working with James, a partner who I respect, who is highly professional, an excellent investigative researcher and writer, eloquent, articulate, nonpartisan, and 100% independent.

We just published our 50th Boiling Frogs Podcast interview. I’ve had a meeting and several discussions with Peter B Collins on how to present these 60-minute solid interviews weekly without commercials-advertisement, and expand from there.

We now have two incredible researchers and analysts, Julia Davis and Bill Bergman, who will contribute to BFP regularly. And of course, we have had the honor of having our award-winning Paul Jamiol contribute fabulous and original political toons regularly to BFP for almost two years.

We are also planning to add a members’ interactive news and discussion forum, where members can post news related items and other political discussion topics on our areas of interest such as: Our hypocrisy-ridden foreign policy, police state practices and news, civil liberties and related activism, government whistleblowers, 9/11, etc.

To sum it up, for our coming Boiling Frogs chapter, we are planning to offer you exclusive weekly video reports and podcast interviews, an interactive members’ forum, weekly editorial-political cartoons, select nightly news-editorials-video round up, weekly investigative research and analyses, and other articles and commentaries.

Now, the question of how are we going to make these plans-objectives possible?

Last March, after our month-long fundraising round I presented to you our results, dilemma, and possible course of action:

I run our fundraising campaign only once a year and for 4 weeks. Unfortunately, as far as our modest fundraising objective goes, we are about halfway there, and this, after finishing our third week. Considering the average rate of contributions we’ve been receiving (so far), we need at least 150 more of you to make it. Now, some people ask, ‘why don’t you run the campaign quarterly or bi-annually?’ My answer is not a complicated one: I really don’t like doing this; I would rather run a longer campaign and get it over with for the year. BUT, I try to listen to my friends and members of our irate minority club, so here are my options in need of your two-cents to come to a decision:

Extend the countdown campaign by another two weeks, and keep this as annual fundraising campaign

Bite the bullet and run a fundraiser campaign 2 or 3 times a year

There are other options and methods such as : Explain your idea

After our less than successful fundraising round, and after receiving your feedbacks, consulting with our partners, and thinking very hard about various ways to make this site and its objectives possible, I have decided on a plan; a course of action that will allow us to continue this site and expand. And based on this plan, starting in the next two weeks or so, we’ll be implementing the following methods to help maintain and expand this site and its features:

Boiling Frogs Subscription Program

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/730_subscriptions.png" alt="sub" />Boiling Frogs Post will begin a subscription program and offer its subscribers our exclusive video and podcast interview weekly series, and access to select exclusive articles purchased from outside journalists. We are also planning and designing an exclusive interactive forum for our members.

Our subscription sum will be modest, and we’ll offer our subscribers two payment options: Annual and recurring monthly payments.

Donations to Boiling Frogs Post

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: right; padding: 3px 3px 3px 6px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/730_donate.png" alt="donate" />Boiling Frogs Post will continue to offer our regular evening news and editorial round up, weekly political-editorial cartoons, in house articles and investigative research, and other discussion series to everyone. And these posts will be made possible only through donations from our readers and supporters. Those of you who cannot, or choose not to, subscribe to our video-podcast-forum program, are encouraged to donate whatever you can to help sustain this website for the irate minority club. We appreciate your donations no matter the amount or frequency, and we are always thankful for your support.

…

I apologize in advance for any minor disruption we may possibly have during the next two weeks while we complete the transfer and reconfiguration of our site, and thank you for your understanding and patience. And now, your turn: Please give us your take and suggestions on the coming chapter for Boiling Frogs Post.

Taking Medical Tourism One Step Further

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/TSAGroper.bmp" alt="TSA" />The Obama administration is getting ready to unveil a new innovative healthcare initiative geared to bridge TSA, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Tourism Industry to provide airline travelers with several major physical examinations at No Cost. Based on the proposed plan US travelers will be offered thorough colon, prostate and breast exams, and will be given health certificates as part of their routine and mandatory TSA security checks at airports.

The White House has already begun its unofficial rounds to garner support from key congressional offices. According to several congressional sources the administration has coined the initiative ‘Triple Win’, a new policy based on the following premises:

- It will increase public trust, dependency on, and respect for TSA, and improve its highly tarnished image. For the first time the multi-billion dollar TSA will be able to show tangible usefulness for its existence.

- It will result in significant revenue increases for the long-struggling travel industry. Many Americans will purchase airline tickets and travel solely for these no-cost security checkpoint check-up services.

- It will provide several highly crucial health check-up services, such as colon and breast exams, to many citizens who are unable to receive these services due to lack of healthcare coverage.

The details of this new initiative have not been released, however the general outline of the proposed initiative that was provided for Congress has been leaking to the media in bits and pieces. From what we have gathered so far, the general proposed guidelines are as follows:

At airport security checkpoints airline passengers will be offered entrances to two separate screening tracks.

Those who ‘Opt-In’ for enhanced security checks with added general sexual health certificate benefits will proceed to Track ‘B’ – which will lead them to enhanced X-Ray screening machines. After going through the enhanced screening machine (able to detect certain general lumps and unusual growths), these passengers will follow a marked pathway to enhanced physical pat-down & examination cubicles. Inside the cubicle an authorized TSA officer will examine the naked passengers and look for lumps, bumps, and unusual growths in colons and or breasts, and or enlarged prostates. Any noticeable unusual odor or discharge will be noted and recorded by the examining TSA officer. Upon exit the airline passenger will be given a stamped certificate detailing the results of the examination.

Those passengers who ‘Opt-Out’ of the enhanced security check will go through existing security checks by following Track ‘A.’ They will be subject to screening machines and possible pat-downs, whether due to random selection or based on unusual screening results (setting off alarms), or completely at the discretion of the agent(s) overseeing the machines and passengers.

The White House declined to provide comments until the official announcement is released. However, one of my sources with the National Security Council had the following to say on condition of remaining anonymous:

‘This is truly a win-win-win proposition. The airlines love it. Think about it. Many Americans, those without the means or coverage, may very well purchase tickets only for the purpose of getting some of their organs checked out for free! This will restore confidence in the TSA, which has been taking a beating lately; it elevates agents from badge-wearing probers to badge-wearing health-care officers!! I mean this is killing three birds with one stone! I can’t see a single soul opposing this initiative.’

When I asked about logistics my source appeared a bit vague and noncommittal:

‘We’ll have some sort of expedited training for our officers. They may have to complete a 16-18 week training course in breast, testicle, and colon exams…you know, some education on lumps, bumps and unusual growths…We have to significantly increase the TSA taskforce and the overall budget…And of course the cost for additional enhanced machines…needless to say this will truly be money well-spent!’

After the above exchange I called a physician familiar with the upcoming initiative and asked for his opinion. Here is his response;

‘Nonsense. Simply nonsense. I shouldn’t even dignify this with an answer or statement…They intend to provide 16 week courses for this uneducated and incompetent bunch and then consider them qualified at the level of doctors who have spent over a decade to obtain degrees and qualifications in medicine! It is one thing to look for weapons and explosives related lumps and bumps, but to check for carcinogenic growths, tumors, and enlarged testicles?! The majority of these ignoramuses at TSA don’t have even college degrees. How could anyone in their right mind trust these people to examine their colon, breast… reproductive organs??! This is utterly preposterous.’

One of my sources on a TSA management team in the Midwest defended the initiative, and had the following in response to the above physician’s statement:

‘I think these physicians are being territorial rather than commonsensical and fair. I think our men and women at TSA can indeed provide these routine checkups and certificates. They are already experts. They have loads of experience. Think about it: all the colons, testicles and breasts they are exposed to, see, touch, and feel every day as part of their tasks! They touch and watch thousands of genitals a day! Think about it, how many doctors can you think of who watch and touch thousands of breasts and testicles a day?! I mean come on, among ourselves we call each other boobies experts and arse gurus!!! And we are that indeed!!’

I contacted Janet Napolitano’s office to get a comment, but since the initiative has not been officially released, they were unable to make an official statement. However, when I presented them with the above statement by their TSA manager and asked them whether they agreed with that comment, they responded:

‘The statement is pretty much accurate. We agree with the points made, except for the politically incorrect expression unwisely and crudely used by the TSA manager. We see ourselves as breast and colon specialists and experts, rather than the crude boobies experts and arse gurus…’

The announcement will be coming soon. Meanwhile, TSA has ordered their first batch of signs to be displayed at the entrances of every security check point nationwide:

The Transportation Security Agency Proudly Serves Americans By Providing Them with National Security & Genital-Mammary Health Examinations.

BFP Countdown, NATO & Drug Smuggling, Holbrook’s Stan(s), Ron Paul & More

Today marks the end of week 1 of our online fundraising campaign. I am thankful to those of you who have kindly donated and helped with getting the word out. We have had contributions from 235 of you; thank you! We still have a long way to go to reach the first benchmark of 1000. As you can see I am counting the number of supporters rather than the dollar amount. For me, that is far more important, and that’s why no amount is considered too small; your willingness to support this site is what really counts. So please, let’s unite on this and take the countdown journey together. We need your help to get the word out and invite others to join this campaign. How hard is it to bring together 1000 or so members of the irate minority club? We can do it!

PLEASE DONATE NOW

Other Updates

Peter and I are scheduled to interview three exciting guests: Activist and the founder of Cryptome.Org, John Young, author and activist Naomi Wolf, and the Director of Project Censored, Peter Phillips.

And here are a few noteworthy articles and links:

German company accused of drug smuggling in Afghanistan
Nancy Isenson, APN/AFP

A German waste management firm employed by the NATO mission in Afghanistan has been accused of involvement in drug smuggling. Allegations against Ecolog and the Macedonian family behind it date back to the war in Kosovo.

Allegations have surfaced that a German-based company contracted by NATO’s ISAF troops in Afghanistan may have been involved in smuggling drugs out of the country.

“There is a chance that drugs or other such things have been smuggled,” NATO General Egon Ramms, chief at ISAF headquarters in the Netherlands told German public broadcaster NDR.

The German general confirmed that an investigation was underway into allegations that Dusseldorf-based Ecolog used contracts with NATO or ISAF for illegal activities. The firm had been working for NATO in Afghanistan since 2003, Ramms said.

…

Ecolog is employed by ISAF to handle laundry services at various locations in Kabul as well as garbage disposal at the military airport and ISAF headquarters in the Afghan capital. The company had been in charge of fuel deliveries to NATO troops in the past.

According to NDR, initial allegations against Ecolog and the Macedonian-Albanian family behind the company date back to the war in Kosovo. Then NATO-led KFOR troops had already suggested there may have been links between the Destani family and organized crime.

…

NATO is investigating NATO, again; right?! Anyone here remember Jan Willem Matser? Of course not. How could we be asked to remember something we never knew about? Thanks to our media here the name wouldn’t ring a bell with anyone except a few irate members here who read my piece last June.

Matser, a Dutch Lieutenant Colonel in Staff to NATO Secretary General George Robertson in charge of Eastern Europe, whose job gave him access to classified NATO material, was arrested on February 2003 in Wemmel, Belgium, and charged with trying to launder at least $200 million for an international drug cartel from his office at the alliance’s HQ in Brussels. Other criminals involved in Matser’s case were Mohammed Kadem, a Moroccan, and Pietro Fedino, a wealthy Sicilian with a previous conviction for cocaine smuggling.

Here is some background as reported by Times UK :

According to documents seen by The Sunday Times, the investigation began last September after customs police at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam received a tip-off about a FedEx parcel sent from Colombia to an address in the Netherlands. The parcel was found to contain a receipt for a £120m deposit at a bank in Bogotá and a fake document authorising the transfer of the same amount of money to Tender SA, a company registered in the Romanian town of Timisoara. The company is not suspected of any wrongdoing.

And here is some more background on the investigations from the same report by Times UK:

The information was passed to a police unit working for the Dutch finance ministry that specializes in combating organised crime. The package was fitted with a bug and resealed. It was allegedly received by Fedino, who is suspected by the Dutch police of being an Italian mafia boss. Five agents monitored him around the clock and listened to his telephone calls. It was this surveillance that led police to Matser. In a call taped on September 7, a man later identified as Matser said he was “going to be leaving NATO in half an hour”.

In a further conversation, on December 27, Matser allegedly said: “I’ll make false documents for the entire transaction . . . It’s no problem; my computer’s very patient and I can even recreate the official notary seals from old documents.” Matser also held several meetings with his alleged accomplices. One meeting with Kadem on Christmas Eve at the Airport hotel in Rotterdam was filmed by the surveillance team. Kadem was already the focus of four international drug investigations and had been sought by Interpol since 1996.”Investigators believe Matser helped to set up the scheme when NATO sent him to Romania last year to instruct central European intelligence chiefs on how to raise standards.”

Interestingly Dick Cheney’s Halliburton happened to be another contender for control of Romania’s Petrom. Here is the ‘Interesting’ Connection:

Matser and Tender are further connected by their failed attempt to gain control of PETROM National Society (SNP), a soon-to-be privatized Romanian oil-company, which produces 10% of the Romanian GDP. Tender, Matser and Halliburton formed a consortium in an effort to gain controlling stakes – 51% estimated to be worth approx. US$ 1 billion. A few days following the announcement of this trio’s interest, Matser was arrested. Subsequently, Romania’s Economy Ministry has made it known that the consortium had not met its criteria and was no longer being considered.”

NATO or its defendants never answered the following question that arose from the Matser Case, I guess they didn’t have to; after all, they are ‘NATO’:

The silence has been deafening which has greeted the revelation that NATO officials consort with some of the biggest gangsters in organised crime. Yet it is obvious what questions Matser’s convictions throws up. What did Matser’s bosses at NATO, including the Secretary-General, know about his criminal activities? How can a NATO official, with all the security controls which such a post implies, entertain friendship and business contacts with well-known gangsters and criminals? How can he amass such stupendous sums of money while holding down a full-time office job?

Despite serious charges supported by tons of evidence Matser was mysteriously acquitted :

A Dutch court on 27 January acquitted former NATO official Jan Willem Matser of charges he attempted to launder $200 million by channeling money from a Colombian bank account to Belgium via Romania, AP and AFP reported (see “RFE/RL Newsline,” 14 January 2004). The judge said prosecutors had failed to support the money-laundering charges. Matser was found guilty of forgery and fraud on two other accounts and was sentenced to 14 months in prison, but was ordered released because he has already served two-thirds of the sentence in pretrial detention. He was given three years’ probation.

No ‘real’ explanation has ever been provided for his acquittal. Matser was convicted of forgery but acquitted of other charges, including belonging to a criminal organization. Yep, that’s the kind of immunity you get if you are a NATO man directly or indirectly.

I don’t want to sound like an online gambling center operator, but who wants to bet against me on this:

The company in question, Ecolog, won’t be touched; NATO will make it swoooshhhhh disappear, and continue its ‘real’ business with our Langley guys in Afghanistan (and elsewhere).

…………..

Holbrooke seeks Central Asia help for Afghanistan
Peter Leonard, AP News

U.S. special envoy Richard Holbrooke visited Kazakhstan on Sunday to drum up regional assistance in stabilizing Afghanistan, the last stop on his tour of former Soviet states in Central Asia.

The recent surge in the U.S. military contingent in Afghanistan has been accompanied by a U.S. effort to enlist help from neighboring nations in rebuilding the war-ravaged country and to provide reassurances that the war won’t spill over the border. We are talking to all the countries that have a concern in the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and that is why we are here today,” Holbrooke said in Kazakh capital of Astana.

            …

So, what’s the purpose?

The roles of Central Asia and Russia in assisting NATO operations in Afghanistan has grown over the past year with the opening of an overland route to Afghanistan from Europe via Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The route offers an alternative to the alliance’s main logistics chain through Pakistan, which has come under repeated attack by militants.

…

Sure! And our panting over the resources and strategic positioning there, and our fierce cut-throat competition with Russia & China ain’t got nothing to do with it… Okay, maybe the icing on the cake?!

This new release, from various Defense components including the Army and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, comes in four parts, see here.

The United States Senate and House of Representatives have both approved an extension on the Patriot Act this week and have passed it to President Obama to sign.

…

The Senate passed the extension Wednesday evening thus sending it to the House which also passed it last night. There was no debate in extending the Act and approval was declared by an overwhelming majority voice vote of 315 to 97. What a convenient way for Congressional members to hide their actions so as not to be affected by angry constituents come election time in November. A voice vote erases the possibility of accountability since there is no official record of how each member voted. It’s ironic to see how Congress is careful to protect its privacy while voting to freely invade the privacy of American citizens.

…

Under the Act, the government can access this information from American citizens without their knowledge and without probable cause. Furthermore, they can issue a “gag order” preventing the investigated citizen from knowing about the government‘s activity. In addition, a felony can be issued if the party requested to provide the information informs the person under investigation. This means that if your employer was asked to provide certain information about you to the government and they told you, they would be charged for doing so.

The extremes that this act allows the government to go to is incredible. Not only are they being allowed to go against fundamental American civil liberties, but they are also allowed to hide that from the investigated citizen. Basically, you will only know they are after you if they want you to know. According to last month’s Reuters report the FBI collected over 2,000 U.S. phone records “by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or by persuading phone companies to provide them.”

<img style="vertical-align:text-center;float: left; padding: 3px 6px 3px 3px;"src="http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Victim.png" alt="Victim" />Last Friday as I was searching the headlines for noteworthy and interesting news articles I came across a fairly lengthy and detailed story on Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi. Considering the saturated state of this recent CIA slaying story and the reporting source, I almost skipped the article, but then, something caught my eye; something easy to miss with the naked eye, at least those of gullible US Media readers-believers. It wasn’t the story itself, nor was it the flowery details in an attempt to make it a possible future ‘Hollywood Action Drama’ worthy of a six figure movie rights offer. It also wasn’t due to the authors, since neither one of them was familiar to me. No, it was none of that. What caught my attention and held it there for the next few hours was the very calculative and selective usage of a word in the title; Victim:

“In Afghanistan attack, CIA fell victim to series of miscalculations about informant”

With that word, victim, in mind, I quickly checked a few other media sites, and sure enough the word was there. I will give you a couple of quick examples, starting with NY Daily News:

Among the CIA victims, including several contractors, was a mother of three who directed operations and intelligence gathering at Forward Operating Base Chapman, a secretive site in Khowst province on the Pakistan border that also houses a State Department reconstruction team.

An eighth American victim was a State Department worker. An Afghan also was killed in the attack and six other Americans were wounded.

…

And the next excerpt from the so-called lefty PBS:

Families of some of the CIA victims have released information about their lives. Harold Brown Jr., 37, from Massachusetts, had a wife and three children; Jeremy Wise, 35, was a former Navy SEAL and worked as a security contractor; Scott Michael Roberson, 39, worked as a security officer and had a wife who was eight months pregnant; and Dane Clak Paresi, 46, was a contractor and retired soldier.

…

First, let’s get the very simple facts straight here:

These were not some CIA paper pushers in some office building overseas, nor were they the stereotyped useless undercover social butterflies hanging out in embassies’ cocktail parties. These were the other breed: Combatants in the so-called war zone, actually in the heart of the combat zone, engaged in combat involving the deadliest of attacks using unmanned drones. As for the other two Blackwater contractors, I don’t have to tell you what they do. Do I?

With our military guys who get killed in wars, this same media reports using words such as combat casualties, killed, slain… Please be my guest and comb through the unfortunately plentiful reports on US military casualties. In fact here is the straight forward definition of casualty by the military:

A casualty is a member of personnel unable to fulfill their duties within a military organization due to death or incapacitation by injury or illness.

And here is how it is defined by encyclopedia

A hostile casualty is any person who is killed in action or wounded by any civilian, paramilitary, terrorist, or military force that may or may not represent a nation or state. Also included in this classification are persons killed or wounded accidentally either by friendly fire or by fratricide, which occurs when troops are mistakenly thought to be an enemy force.

As for general usage of Victims of War, this is what usually is meant:

…to those who may be described as the victims of war-that is, noncombatant civilians and those no longer able to take part in hostilities.

I know what you are thinking; kind of. Why split hairs over some terminology usage that may or may not have been calculated, selected, and then given to the public by the media. And, that’s exactly why I ended up spending several hours researching after coming across that article by the Washington Post.

I spent a few hours combing through the Washington Post archives. I am sure I wasn’t able to check hundreds of their semi-fiction reportage, but I’d say dozens of articles should suffice to establish selective usage of the word victim when it hardly applies, and never using the word where it would be 100% correct and applicable.

Wouldn’t you, or almost anyone, even those with only a minute trace of comprehension-knowledge-brain-common sense, consider the civilian casualties, when it’s comprised of babies, toddlers, grandmothers, as victims of war? As victims? Every dictionary, encyclopedia, and everyone with certified expertise in the English language, would say ‘YES.’

Then how is it that when reporting on established, 100% confirmed, civilian casualties of US combat attacks that include innocent children, this same Washington Post does not use the word victim; not even once? Not in relation to the family members of those children and mothers killed; as in “…the uncle of one of the victims…’ or something like ‘these children fell victim to inaccurate…’ I could go on and list dozens of links from past articles on major heart wrenching civilian casualties of our senseless and perpetual war(s), and show you the absence of the word victim in all. Or you can easily do that yourself: visit Washington Post, enter the key words ‘Afghanistan civilian casualties war’ in the box, click on search, comb through tens if not hundreds of resultant articles on civilian casualties of our war, and look for the word ‘victim.’

However, I would like to add a little more. Like Diogenes looking for that honest man, in this day and age we are all still looking for the same, and with Boiling Frogs Post we have found an honest woman in Sibel Edmonds.

I want to congratulate Sibel on her new site and her effort to bring us what is so lacking in today’s mainstream media and even in some of the new internet media. In today’s media, there is an incredible amount of kissing up to politicians, carrying water for corporations and racing to put out the latest fluff stories that clearly insult our collective intelligence. And then there is the hate….

You won’t see that happening on Sibel’s site. I invite you to join her in her endeavor to bring out some honest journalism with bold, independent investigative reports, in-depth commercial-free Podcast interviews, independent editorials and analysis, original editorial cartoons and lively discussions.

Her project relies solely on your donations. Please contribute what you can, and help this site move forward. We really need the honesty. A big thank you to all of you that donate.

Please don’t forget to invite your friends to visit, register, comment, and join the Irate Minority Club at Boiling Frogs Post.

A Few New Developments in The Makings of a Police State

What happened to the month of September?! For me, it just flew by: The Krikorian Case, the American Conservative Magazine article, the latest from former FBI CI Specialist John Cole, several interesting interviews for our upcoming Boiling Frogs Show, building and designing my soon-to-be-launched website…and of course full-time motherhood and my part time job. Well, I am still standing!

I am expecting to have the new site up and running by mid October. Since ‘blogger’ doesn’t have a forwarding function I’ll post the notice for the new site as my last post to direct our readers to the site. It’s not going to be just a new site but the beginning of a new exciting project. Once the move is completed and we are settled, I’ll announce the names of my investigative journalist partners whom you all will recognize, together with a few other projects and objectives.

I’ve been running behind in publishing my next series of Boiling Frogs Interviews. In the next few weeks I’ll post interviews with John Cole (Former FBI CI Specialist), Melvin Goodman (Former CIA Analyst), Richard Barlow (Former CIA Analyst), and Steve Kohn (Attorney & the Founder of National Whistleblowers Center).

Speaking of interviews, here is the transcript of a great interview by Scott Horton with Philip Giraldi and Joe Lauria based on the American Conservative Magazine cover story.

Here is some semi-recent news and developments related to our ‘Police State’ topics I’ve been meaning to post, but for one reason or another were unable to actually sit down and do:

President of words but not actions

Those of you who’ve been following the latest on the President’s half-hearted promises on the future of the State Secrets Privilege may want to check out his latest action in ‘action’ and ‘implementation.’ The informed civil libertarians have been cautioning against celebrating our Attorney General’s vague announcement of improvements in using and implementing this privilege. They are right. The changes are in words only and cosmetic at best. As we all know the new administration has been defending, justifying and actually promoting the former administration’s abuses of this unconstitutional privilege. Here is the latest case:

The government’s assertion of the state secrets privilege in a pending lawsuit brought by a former Drug Enforcement Administration agent will not be affected by the new Attorney General policy limiting the use of the privilege, the Justice Department said last week, because it is already in compliance with the new policy.

In a September 24 appellate brief (pdf) in the case of Horn v. Huddle, Justice Department attorneys urged an appeals court to overturn a lower court ruling that would authorize the parties in the lawsuit to disclose classified information to their attorneys. The Department also defended its use of the state secrets privilege.

An August 26 ruling in the case held that the parties’ counsel had a “need to know” the classified information possessed by their clients, and the court therefore directed the government to authorize the sharing of that information.

The government immediately objected. “The district court’s extraordinary order — compelling the government to grant security clearances and to authorize disclosure of classified national security information to private counsel… — unnecessarily usurps the Executive Branch’s authority and responsibility to protect from disclosure classified national security information as to which the state secrets privilege has been invoked,” the government argued in its September 24 brief.

The government also declared that the Attorney General’s new policy limiting the use of the state secrets privilege, which takes effect on October 1, would have no impact on the present case.

“The assertion of the privilege in this case satisfies the standards in the new policy concerning the applicable legal standards, narrow tailoring, and limitations on the assertion of the privilege. Moreover, the privilege as invoked in this case has been carefully reviewed by senior Department of Justice officials, who have determined that invocation of the privilege in this litigation is warranted,” the government brief stated.

That’s right. This, in addition to the rest (NSA & CIA extraordinary rendition cases). Make sure you cite these cases (among many others, including the mounting civilian casualties in Afghanistan) next time you hear one of those ‘Obama Apologists’ rant on about the greatness of this president …

President Fights to Keep the Worst PATRIOT ACT Provisions Extended & Alive

Our ‘President of Change’ has done another flip on one of his many campaign promises. Now Mr. Obama is vehemently seeking to have Congress extend all three expiring provisions of the so very unpatriotic and un-American PATRIOT ACT.

This is from a report released on Monday, September 15:

“Despite promises during the campaign that he would review certain of the most intrusive portions of the PATRIOT Act, President Barack Obama’s Justice Department today is calling for Congress to extend all three expiring provisions, though they were “willing to consider” civil rights protections “as long as they don’t weaken” the president’s powers under the act”

Among those provisions the administration is seeking to extend is the infamous Section 215: the provision which allows law enforcement access to library and bookstore records, without probable cause, for “national security” reasons. The American Library Association has been complaining for years that the provision was overbroad and many fear it could prove to have a chilling effect on the ability to read potentially subversive literature.

Another of the provisions the administration wants extended is the so-called “lone wolf” provision, which amends the FISA definition of “agent of a foreign power” to include people the government can’t establish as having any link to a foreign government or terrorist organization.”

You can read the rest of this article and supporting links here.

I know my readers are too sophisticated and informed to need any explanation of these unconstitutional provisions, so I won’t provide any. Come on, even the least informed citizen of this country should shudder after reading the ‘lone wolf’ provision. It says it plain and simple: the government doesn’t need ANY cause WHATSOEVER to target a citizen whenever and wherever it chooses to go after him/her. Period.

Let’s go ahead and add this to the long list of President Obama’s ‘changes on change.’ If you haven’t read my piece on this topic, Two Sides of the Same Coin, here is the link:

I am afraid at this rate soon we may deservedly call our new president ‘Bush Dark.’ Let’s hope I am wrong…

Girl Scouts: From Cookies to Guns?

Part I of my Police State Series was on ‘The National Security Generation’. As a reminder here are a few excerpts from that piece:

On May 15 this year Telegraph UK ran an article on a nationwide Boy Scouts training program on combating terrorism. The reported number of scouts between the ages of 14 and 21 who are currently enrolled in law enforcement and terrorism programs across the United States is around 35,000.

“Dressed in combat fatigues and armed with air guns firing tiny plastic pellets, they are taught how to assault buses, raid marijuana fields and rescue terrorist hostages from buildings.”

LA Times reports on Meade High School in Northern Maryland, the first high school in the country to offer a four-year course in Domestic Security. The article’s ‘sexy’ title goes like this: ‘The School Mixes Algebra, Homeland Security.’ The goal is identified as ‘to help graduates build careers in one of America’s few growth industries.’ By the ‘few growth industries’ they mean not only the intelligence agencies, Department of Homeland Security, etc, but all the parasitic related private contractors such as private weapons companies and mercenary contractor firms like well-known Blackwater.

“the 90 ninth-graders who chose the new homeland security program this last school year focused on topics torn from the headlines: Islamic jihadism, nuclear arms, cyber-crime, domestic militias and the like.”

Mother Jones reports further on Joppatowne High School:

“Dedicated to everything from architecture to sports medicine, “career academies” claim to offer high school kids focus, relevancy, and solid job prospects. Now add a new kind of program to the list: homeland security high. In late August, Maryland’s Joppatowne High School became the first school in the country dedicated to churning out would-be Jack Bauers. The 75 students in the Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness magnet program will study cybersecurity and geospatial intelligence, respond to mock terror attacks, and receive limited security clearances at the nearby Army chemical warfare lab.”

Here is more in another article covering the same topic on Chicago schools:

“One in 10 public high school students in Chicago wears a military uniform to school and takes classes — including how to shoot a gun properly — from retired veterans.
That number is expected to rise as junior military reserve programs expand across the country now that a congressional cap of 3,500 units has been lifted from the nearly century-old scheme.”

Now the Department of Homeland Security has decided to expand their ‘Homeland Security Youth’ doctrinarian program. Their new target: Girl Scouts. They appear intent on replacing our little girl scouts’ cookies with guns and their old line community work with snitching and militancy:

“The United States wants to enlist its 3.4 million Girl Scouts in the effort to combat hurricanes, pandemics, terror attacks and other disasters.”

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a campaign Tuesday to entice the blue, brown and green-clad multitudes to be even more prepared, with the promise of a new patch if they pitch in.”

I tried to find some pictures of our soon to be transformed Scouts, but couldn’t find any. So I decided that these old pictures from the last century would work just as well:

The Homeland’s objective one: start them really young.

Updates & Announcements

It’s been a roller-coaster week and I expect that to continue for the next few days. My week was taken up with the latest frenzy surrounding the congressional campaign on the whistleblower protection bill. Also, I was presented with a very interesting development in a case that seems to be related to my state secrets privilege case. Due to the confidentiality involved with an ongoing court case and several attorney parties I cannot discuss the details now, but stay tuned; more to come very soon.

Next Saturday I will be leaving for four weeks. I’ll be overseas and mostly on the road, moving from one place to another. The posting on this site will be light, but in addition to publishing my Boiling Frogs Interviews, I’ll try to provide you with occasional posts and updates.

…

Announcing Mizgin’s Desk

I am proud to announce that starting this month this site will feature exclusive articles by a great researcher and analyst, Mizgin Yilmaz. For the last few years Mizgin has been one of my best sources and the go-to-person on issues, developments, and cases related to the Kurdish regions of Southeast Turkey and Northern Iraq, Turkey, and Central Asia. Not only does she have great research and analytic capabilities, but she also has reliable hard-to-come-by sources in ‘places and areas’ where no American journalists dare to venture. Mizgin is fluent in several languages, thus is able to find, read, and analyze news and documents in and from that part of the world. Her expertise and education in the history and politics of these regions, her research and linguistic capabilities, a fearless approach, and an articulate and fiery writing style are some of many ingredients that make Mizgin’s work shine as solid and dynamite. As you can tell I am a big fan of her work, but I’ll stop here and let you judge my choice and admiration based on reading her upcoming pieces!

Coming Very Soon: Jamiol Presents

Our regular visitors are familiar by now with Paul Jamiol’s wonderful political cartoons. Newcomers can just scroll down the main page and see a few more of his recent works. Soon Paul will be creating exclusive cartoons for this site on our related topics and posts. I am honored to have him as a contributor and a partner. I am expanding this site and his contribution will enrich the content. After my return this website will go through a bit of a facelift, and after that you’ll get to see Paul’s work regularly. Meanwhile you can visit Paul’s website and enjoy his work!

The Boiling Frogs Show

Well, what can I say! It’s been really incredible. I love working with Peter. It is as if we operate from one mind when it comes to our spontaneous questions for our guests. It’s been so informative (for us too!), thought provoking, revelatory, and fun, fun, fun. Really! This week we’ll be interviewing Richard Barlow and Joe Trento on the nuclear black market and related issues, many of which go unreported by the media. After my return Peter and I will hopefully find a solution that will allow us to offer our show more frequently. Our list of future guests keeps growing and the number of cases and issues we want to cover keeps increasing. We must find a way!

Speaking of Peter, he recently interviewed Mark Klein, the AT&T whistleblower who exposed the NSA’s secret splitter room in San Francisco. Klein discusses the illegal interception of Americans’ communications, the cover up by most MSM outlets, the irresponsive Congress, and more. Klein recently self published his book “Wiring Up the Big Brother Machine…and Fighting it.” The book is now available at Amazon. I encourage you to visit Peter’s site to listen to this important interview.
…

I am working on a couple of other exciting projects for this site and will report back on that soon, after my return. Meanwhile please help me spread the word on this site and our Podcast show. Thank You.

123 Real Change- Progress Report & Notes

Hard to believe it’s already been a month since I finally got down to it, joined the blogosphere, and started this blog. Originally I thought the blog would be limited to a few posts per month, mainly short commentaries on issues and topics of interest to me, and maybe an op-ed piece or two. Well, that changed, and did so quickly!

The lengthy series on ‘Dissecting the MSM’ ended up becoming a project of its own. I have 3 parts done, and one last post, part 4, Corporate Ownership & Public Demand, to go. I think I should be able to wrap that one up before the end of this month. I already have an idea and notes on my next series, and I think you will find it interesting and controversial; at least I hope you will. I won’t give out more but please stay tuned.

I have two reports on Project Expose MSM and am reviewing two other cases to see whether they are ‘solid’ and supported sufficiently to be published. It is quite difficult, but interesting and fun nonetheless. Exposing these cases is only step one. What we need to do is decide how to translate the knowledge of these cases into action. More on this later…

We have also had a few fun TGIF posts. For these I am running out of ‘fun’ but relevant ideas, and welcome your suggestions on our future TGIF topics. The criteria: Fun, humorous, and relevant to our general discussion areas. Please bring in your ideas. You can post them under the ‘comments’ section of our last TGIF on June 5.

We have had over 25,000 visitors here in one month. This really exceeded my expectations for the first month. Most importantly I have been truly amazed by the depth of the comments you’ve posted: articulate, thought provoking, independent, and all that expressed and communicated respectfully and civilly. I have to admit, my biggest fear was to end up with lots of ‘one-liner’ shallow, ultra partisan, and or propagandist comments; the ultimate turn off and at times nauseating trend I’ve observed on many sites/blogs throughout the years. I am delighted to have you and your voice. I am learning a lot from you. Please don’t stop. For those of you among the 25,000 who have not added your voice yet: please join us. Let us hear and learn from you. Whether you are conservative, liberal, libertarian, realist, neocon…doesn’t matter, join the discussion and add your voice; enrich the discussion we are having here.

I have a few ideas and projects for the future of this blog. Some of them may be considered ambitious, but so what? I’ll do my best to implement them. One of these ideas will involve participation of a few solid investigative journalists I know and consider friends. Another one has to do with weekly Podcast interviews…However, before I start pitching and implementing them I need to get this blog, the number of visitors, and the number of posted comments to the next benchmark. I am hoping to establish a monthly average of 50,000 unique ID visitors by this fall. Ambitious? Yes. Doable? Surely. This also will largely depend on you and your support to get us there. Again please bring your ideas and suggestions. Those of you who happen to be savvy (I am certainly not savvy) in blogging and website promotion (cross-posting, RSS Feed, Digg, Reddit, etc.): I appreciate any help you can provide in this area…E-mail me if you are interested and can spare a little time to pitch in and help implement these ideas.

This is it for my brief monthly round up on this blog’s monthiversary. Now, it is your turn. Let me know what you think.

P.S.

Peter Lance’s ‘Triple Cross’ & Patrick Fitzgerald

This coming week the paperback edition of Peter Lance’s latest HarperCollins investigative book TRIPLE CROSS is being released. The book is highly critical of Fitzgerald, particularly with respect to his interaction with al Qaeda master spy Ali Mohamed, and is already creating lots of controversy. I just received my signed copy from Peter, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet.

So far Patrick Fitzgerald has sent four threat letters to HarperCollins, Lance’s publisher, threatening to sue if the book is published. He claims the book has defamed him and put him in a “false light.”

Here is an article covering the latest on Lance’s book and Fitzgerald:

Ann Sparanese, the New Jersey Librarian who has waged anti-censorship campaigns in the past, sent an email to thousands of librarians nationwide chastising Fitzgerald for his attempt to pulp the book and calling it “A Book to Watch.” Here is the link: http://libraryjuicepress.com/blog/?p=1454#comments

Lance’s Press Conference will be held this Tuesday, June 16, at 9:30 a.m., in the John Zenger Room of the National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, Washington, DC 20045. I am invited to attend, and hopefully will make it there and report on it further here.

Okay, this was supposed to be a brief monthly round up! I’ll wrap it up here before it turns into a novella, and leave you with the latest from

Favorite Quotes on MSM

As you must already know I have a ‘thing’ for well-crafted, punchy, witty, deep, or sometimes ultra sarcastic quotes. I truly envy those who can deliver a loaded message, a deep philosophical thought, or a mucking criticism, in a few wisely selected words and in one or two simply but effectively crafted sentence(s). Just take a look at my previous analyses and op-ed pieces. You see what I mean?!!! I am certainly not ‘talented’ that way How do I make up for it? Well, again as you can see, I borrow theirs, and place them in the openings and closings of my humble writings. Just in case people don’t have the time to read the painfully longer part written by me!

Okay, I am going to list a few favorite quotes of mine, those related to the media in general, and invite you to bring in and post yours. Here goes:

Editorial Cartoons, also known as political cartoons, can be powerful and effective in explaining political issues and current events. Cartoons can evoke compassion and ignite outrage. They can promote ideals and act as catalysts to propel action for change through creative use of visual art.
They help shape public opinion (positively and negatively).

A few days ago, after publishing my latest op-ed piece on President Obama’s Changes on Change, I received an e-mail from Paul Jamiol, a great cartoonist who has done some really good work in depicting our nation’s downslide. He sent me the link to his recent cartoon which is related to the op-ed piece I wrote; great job, indeed! Check it out below:

Here is another good one published a while ago during one of my MSM related campaigns:

I encourage you to check out Paul’s website to see his activism expressed so effectively in cartoons – summing up important issues better than 1000 word pieces.

Now here is your turn: What do you think of political cartoons and their role today? Who is/are your favorite cartoonist(s)? Why? Also, if you can, share (provide the link) with all of us your favorite cartoon (only one cartoon, please!) related to the topics we’ve been discussing (MSM, Need for ‘Real Change,’ Campaign lies and ‘pre-selected’ candidates…). If you don’t have one already, you may want to spend a few minutes browsing the Net – it is fun, uplifting, and also highly stimulating-nothing like a well-executed punchy cartoon to get that critical thinking going….
