As a long-term truth seeker and activist, and as a founder and director of Boiling Frogs Post, I believe I have gained a certain degree of moral authority to answer this question confidently:

The true alternative means the truly independent: independent of foundation mega-bucks, independent of corporate-sponsors, and independent of mega-advertisement dollars. There is only ONE way for a truly independent alternative to exist, survive, continue and expand: Through People- direct contributions and donations by the people for the people.

Yesterday we began our Quarterly Fundraising for our truly independent news website operating without a single penny from any foundations, corporations or agenda-pumping partisan interests. Boiling Frogs Post has been operating on a very modest and tight budget, yet it has been expanding due to our commitment to countering the mainstream and pseudo-alternative propaganda outlets. By modest I mean ‘extremely modest’. I marvel when I see or read about the amount of funding people receive for operating sites that do not deliver even one-tenth of what we have been providing here at this website. The other day I came across this ‘Rich Men’s Website’:

This ‘Rich Men’s Website’  asks for and receives at least $320,000 a year- $80,000 per quarter, to deliver daily aggregated news that comes mainly from a few mainstream outlets such as Washington Post, New York Times, LA Times, BBC, and  the like. They have no radio shows. They don’t produce a single podcast show (syndicating is not producing, ey!). They don’t produce a single video report. They don’t have a single reporter with original reporting. No complex website or needed database … Yet, for a site that would take less than 5 hours a day to run, they receive $320,000 a year plus other funding through their ‘angels.’

I tell you what: We are envious. Compared to this ‘Rich Men’s Site’ here is what we do: We produce on average FOUR original in-depth and independent podcast shows per week with no commercials or outside funding-here, here, here, and here. We produce a weekly investigative and original video report that is truly unmatched- check it out here. We bring to you in-depth nightly news from several dozen sources (we do not include MSM outlets such as Washington Post, NY Times, Time Magazine, etc.). We publish daily analyses and articles by truly independent experts and authors. We even produce our own original political cartoons.

And guess what? We are bringing all the above mentioned (in addition to our cloud hosting cost, server webhosting cost, payment processors’ cost, and website technical support costs) with funding that is far less than One Quarter of the Rich Men’s Site!!!!

You know what I’m thinking? Here is what I’m thinking: If we were a rich site like that we’d have daily video reports, several daily podcast shows, our own team of investigative reporters, the best-looking website, and so much more!! In October 2009 I launched Boiling Frogs Post with one purpose in mind: To establish a venue for investigative articles, editorials, analyses, discussions, and interviews on issues largely censored and blacked out by the media. After four months of a successful trial phase this venue is now ready to enter its next stage, and for that it needs your support.

Boiling Frogs Post is solely dependent on its readers, and has no ties to any institution, foundation, organization or corporation. This is the only model I see fit to be called an independent news and views venue, untainted by external pressures, special interests or partisan flavoring.

Our authors and analysts present their work, not agenda scripts or special recipes handed to them for creation of a particular propaganda to serve a particular interest. And, our weekly commercial-free Podcast Show hosts the voices of noteworthy guests on topics long-muffled and quashed by the mainstream media and their minions on lower levels posing as alternatives.

I’m happy to report that in the four months since the launching of Boiling Frogs Post we have accomplished and delivered every single objective set prior to the launching this site. I am proud to have established a distinguished team of journalists, analysts, authors, and an editorial cartoonist whose work is based on truth and real issues.

Whether it is going after hypocrisy-ridden foreign policy practices, the ever revolving doors of foreign lobbies, or our stomped upon and continuously assaulted civil liberties, our work transcends the webs put in place by partisanship and special interests and agendas.
