NEWSBUD- Where Media Integrity Matters: Join Our Campaign for a 100% People Funded Media

We’re back! Your incredible support and generous pledges during our last Kickstarter campaign have encouraged us to try another time.

Today is the day. It’s the first day of our new campaign, and we need you to help again. We have 45 days to raise $150,000, and we know we can do it with your help! Make a pledge, subscribe to Newsbud, put the word out by forwarding this link to others. And please take action as soon as possible—the first three to four days of the campaign will be the most critical to our success.

Now is the time to stand up for your right to be informed and help create a news and multimedia network unlike anything else online, in print, or on TV. Newsbud will produce original stories, investigative reports, video-podcasts, editorials, and discussion forums, and it will be a real independent alternative because it will be 100% people funded.

As part of our new strategy, we are running four Kickstarter campaigns over an 18-month period and a simultaneous subscription drive. With each successful Kickstarter campaign and subscription effort, we’ll launch additional programs and content and bring in more staff. From a small provincial city (town really) situated a rustic peasant region in northern Europe were people for the most part still lead simple, uncomplicated and unremarkable lives I’ll pledge to support Newsbud. It would be very easy here to live a life of blissful ignorance and pretend all is fine and swell in the world. Probably much easier than for most Americans even. However all is not fine and swell in the world. We have a systemic problem we can see, hear read the symptoms of each day. We need to start addressing these issues. It’s our responsibility and to shy away won’t make it go away. Whats more, there’s a concerted effort not to address any of these core issues. Or only in a dishonest and agenda driven manner. Independent nonpartisan journalism with integrity is essential to bring into the open these issues. To drag them kicking and screaming into the public eye. That is whats needed so that’s precisely what we’re going to do! 🙂

  5. So. We’re off to a respectable start here but there’s a long way to go. Presumably those of us in the BFP crowd who are excited about this and are able to help have already made a pledge. We are the low-hanging fruit. To make this thing take off, we need to move the excitement outside this circle and really get it out there. Let’s all post the Kickstarter link everywhere we can think of. Social media. Comment areas of high-traffic sites — not as random spam, but where it’s appropriate. Shouldn’t be hard to find places where news-with-integrity is relevant, and be sure to include a suggestion for others to also pass it along. It’s going to need to go a little viral I think.

    What else can we do?

    • On this note, where would be best to meme? Would vast public advertising like billboard be wise or is there a specific market… There is a specific market, duh, the irate minority. But where would you hunt for it? Would it be wise to avoid recuiting on a rense or icke forum? I would think something like a Jones forum might be wise. Where is best to look? Should the forum where 911 inside job stuff is harrassed and shot down be worth the bother?

  7. It seems to me there are a lot of people who think *their* news is fine, it’s the *other* guy’s news that’s the problem. How many people think the Huffington Post or Democracy Now is alternative news, and they smugly go there and laugh at Fox News, and vice versa? Both groups think they’re using “alt” media in some way so when you say “mainstream” media is horrendous they’ll agree with you but they don’t think they’re using it.

    So it occurs to me one good strategy might be using specific news stories, something about Syria for example, and very briefly point out what’s not being said, why it’s not good enough — and then go to “we need Newsbud”. In other words, examples, to help people see the need they didn’t know they had. And to do that on social media etc. instead of just saying Newsbud is cool, support it. Show them why. Just an idea — maybe here we could compile good examples. They need to be short, sweet, and clear.

    • That’s a great strategy John, thanks for bringing it up. I’ve been trying just that on twitter, hope its working a little. Stories like Fox’s suppression of Monsanto’s bovine growth hormone, the Iraq WMD stuff, Syria, there are so many examples out there. I’d love to hear more that I can put to use!

      • Those are good ones Katie! What brought it to mind was the recent Boston Globe piece on “the media are misleading the public on Syria” — which was a good piece, although it left a lot out of course. The nice thing about it is it’s a critique of the MSM from within the MSM, meaning yes it’s limited but also people will believe it. Show them something from a true alt source they don’t know and they’ll just write it off as the ravings of some nut job. But maybe if we can say hey, the Boston Globe has it right, and did you know Sibel Edmonds reported on the training of rebels in Turkey to raise hell in Syria back in 2011? For real news back Newsbud. Right? Something along those lines as these opportunities arise.

      • The Dennis Hastert story is another obvious one to hook into, a case where the mainstream buried an explosive story that was covered so well right here.

        • absolutely! I used the media is misleading the public on Syria one, I agree that’s a really good one. I had forgot about the rebel training in Turkey, thanks, that’s a good one too! And oh yes, slimy Hastert too. I used the Nowosielski/Duffy and Bikowski story today, I’ll work on the Turkey one and Hastert tomorrow. Some good social media ammunition. I need to actually spend the time to write a piece on multiple examples all in one place! Keep brainstorming!
          PS to anyone on social media spreading the word, please hashtag your posts with #newsbud if the platform supports hashtags (twitter/instagram/facebook/etc), helps us all find and share the posts. 🙂

    I am brand new to the site and want to check in. I have joined because I could not finish “Classified Woman”. Why, you may ask? Because I lived it and could not deal with the memories it brought back. I don’t know how Sibel survived it but I drank my way through it. Now I’ve been sober 26 years and want to use my experience, strength, and hope to help and, perhaps, even educate those who continue to “believe”. Sibel, I am counting on your integrity and courage. You are the reason I am here and feel I can trust what is on the site.

    As I was driving home I was listening to the radio and heard about a petition started by
    an American, to change the U.S. national anthem to ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude.

    That didn’t make me think about NEWSBUD, but when they said they were close to reaching their goal of 5,000 signatures the wheels started to churn.

    This petition was launched on so I headed over there to see what they had cooking.

    They’ve got petitions for just about everything under the sun.

    So I thought to myself, why not a petition formulated in some fashion to raise awareness about NEWSBUD?

    Something along the lines of say…
    ‘Make MSM obsolete by supporting NEWSBUD!’

    Then a blurb about why it is so important…etc.

    Each petition has a paragraph or two outlining its goal/aim.

    I say why not go for it?
    We’ve got nothing to lose.

    If 5,000 people can sign up in a matter of days to support changing the U.S. national anthem to ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude, surely we can get 5,000 people to sign up for NEWSBUD!

        Well I’ve done a bit more investigating on to see what is involved in setting up a petition.
        It’s quite straight forward and simple really.

        There are four main steps:
        1. Title
        2. Choose decision maker
        3. Explain the problem you want to solve.
        4. Add a photo or video

        Pretty much everything we’d need for this can be gleaned from the NEWSBUD Kickstarter page.
        They give tips to help you along with each step.

        Right after step 3. there are two sub-steps. (I believe they came up because I hadn’t signed into
        3.1 Sign up for an account ( or log in, (or use Facebook account)
        3.2 Decide to start petition as individual or organization (my account is an individual account).

        For step 2. it appears at first that they will only accept one person who will make the decision for the change.
        However I discovered that it is possible get away with something like “All the people in the world” etc.

        There is a lot of brain power here at this site among our members.
        It shouldn’t be difficult at all for us to come up with a very catchy title for the petition to draw in the public.

        Don’t forget who the target audience is!
        It is comprised mainly of MSM worshippers, followers, sleepers, sheep etc. + pseudo alt-media ‘connoisseurs’ + legit alt-media supporters (our folks) who haven’t discovered NEWSBUD yet.

        After the catchy title, maybe it could be followed by something along the lines of
        “Have you ever dreamed of…
        (You can) Make that dream come true (a reality)…” etc.

        I think we should do this right and in the next day or two.

        • Thanks Ribbit-Mark, for the great idea and the helpful research. Since the point of all petitions, I think, is to get somebody to do something, I’d suggest job number one, even before catchy title, is to define the actual purpose. What’s the goal? Who is the target and what are we trying to get him/her/it to do?

          I get that the real goal is to raise awareness of Newsbud, and the real target is the petition signers themselves. But I don’t know how you get people to sign a petition to raise awareness of something they’re not already aware of. “OK, we’ve got 5000 signatures, now let’s present the petition to the 5000 signers to demand their awareness of what they’ve just signed.”

          I mean, that would be some pretty meta level stuff, possibly a postmodern petition masterpiece even. But possibly not our most effective angle.

          Possibly something like “We Demand Real News”, putatively to be presented to major media owners. And then the bulk of the text is bald-faced promotion of Newsbud as the “or else” part, with a link to Kickstarter.

          Or, you know, something way more clever than that.

            Traditionally, the petitions have been used to get someone or an organization to do something or change something.

            The organization could be a corporation, government, professional body, educational institution, union, any group really.

            The ‘someone’ could be anyone really as well; a farmer, store owner, company president, teacher, etc.

            A quick browse through the thousands of petitions at will give you an idea of the myriad target ‘decision makers’ who can make the change possible.

            Yes, we could use the approach you suggested: make a petition that demands the MSM change their evil ways and start delivering real news, overnight.

            And add a blurb about NEWSBUD (with links) just in case they don’t agree to make the change.

            That would be one approach.

            However, I think a more effective way to take advantage of the platform would be to craft a petition that asks for the general populace to make a change.
            We would be petitioning the public to do something.

            What could they do?
            Support a real news platform: NEWSBUD!

            Why is it important? Because x,y,z etc.

            What would really be happening at the end of the day was simply our raising the awareness of the NEWSBUD project.

            Whether people actually signed the petition or not, is not what matters.
            What would matter is that people would learn about NEWSBUD, hopefully support it and spread the word to others.

    This was a valiant try. Maybe the best that can be done is to grow Newsbud from within Boilingfrogspost. Obviously the crowd is not interested in an another ethical independent news source that’s described as such since Boilingfrogspost already gives them what they need ? Keep growing the Boilingfrogspost brand. I’ll try to think of ideas for publicity that should go viral etc. I know it’s tough, the Hastert topic should have gone viral maybe there are some lessons there?

  13. Mixed bag of emotions. Rationally knew it was going to be hard and odds were against us. Still, when fairly quickly reaching 100k I was hoping we might have caught some momentum. Also hadn’t foreseen the many negative reactions. The ‘alt media’ crowd turns out to be just as much divided as anywhere.
    Glad the project won’t be binned and will gets a new chance. All this preparation shouldn’t be for naught. It’s still needed.And for the past months, I can only express my deepest appreciation for the effort.

    I suspected that the odds were against us almost from the start. For it to be successful at least 300.000 dollars would have needed to be raised in the first ten days or so. The almost complete lack of support from the alternative media also worked against us. I had hoped to see Newsbud dominating the headlines of the various alternative news outlets. That Sibel would be on all the big alternative news talk shows, etc. That didn’t happen which made it very hard to get the word out. Still, it got the support from those that were in the know, so it wasn’t a flop. Glad to hear that we’re gonna have another go under a different formula.
